Thomas Sowell's Vision of the Anointed provides a succinct answer to this question: the liberal viewpoint is one of self-congratulation. Holding all the wisdom and all the answers is evidence of superior intellect and superior humanity.
Who would back down from such a loftly place in the world? Hence the lack of reflection upon past policies and their effectiveness, and the repeated bleat that what is needed to make a failed policy work is "more money".
Anyone who questions them must be a big bad villain who enjoys being mean...

The “self-congratulation” is a emotion that makes them feel better, ie no job heres some money, pregnant and not married heres some money..
Liberals do not look at the past, they dream of the future.

the liberal viewpoint is one of self-congratulation.Yep. You don't think that all of those people out there were really voting for Obama, do you?
They were voting for themselves. As in...."Look at me, I voted for Obama. I'M A PART of HISTORY!". Or, just as likely... "Hey, I voted for a Black President! I'm one of the good guys!! No Bias Here!"
