BEIJING – Google’s accusation that its e-mail accounts were hacked from China landed like a bombshell because it cast light on a problem few companies will discuss: the pervasive threat from China-based cyberattacks.

““Chinese hacking activity is significant in quantity and quality,” said Sami Saydjari, president of the consulting firm Cyber Defense Agency and a former U.S. National Security Agency official.”

Our powers that be have been ignoring this problem for many years. My anti-hacking software tracks the source of hacking attempts; for at least 5 years, more than 80 per cent have originated in China. Bet I’m not the only one! There is no way that this has gone unnoticed by US officials — but they choose to let it slide, because China is our trading “partner.”

Did anyone else here notice that Google never really cared about “human rights” vis-a-vis open internet in China until AFTER they were cyber attacked?

It was a wonderful week when that fiber on the Pacific Rim went out.

We should take out their near-Earth capability next time.

90% of the ssh and ssl attacks I receive are from the PACRIM. Usually I just firewall off those networks with prejudice. But, once in a while I leave my honey pot out there for them and monitor attempts.

Nope, you’re not the only one. The overwhelming majority of attempted hacks on my machine have come from China, too.

Strangely, I’ve never gotten an attack (to the best of my knowledge) from anywhere in Russia. I figured there was at least one or two 1337 HaXx0r5 in Moscow with nothing better to do...

I hear the ChiCom Govermnet has big warehouses full of hackers. I’ll bet they are being fed inside information and code by Chinese people employed at Google in California. It could be any google worker selling info for the right price

I’ve noted a few from Russia. What mostly comes from Russia are blog-post “comments” that are scam links. I have also noted some of those trojan-horse viruses which pop up virus-attack warnings (ironically) and recommend you send money to have the virus removed. But the hacker traffic from Russia pales by comparison to China.

oh, for a “boomerang” revenge virus which zips to the attacker’s system and zaps the hard drive . . . .
