LINK TO SUPERBOWL AD AND ADDITIONAL MOCKING ADS FROM AUDI
The Audi A3 TDI Diesel was named by Green Car Journal at the L.A. Auto Show as the GREEN CAR OF THE YEAR. Besides the staff of Green Car Journal and self-described environmentalists, the judges include Jay Leno and legendary muscle car icon Carroll Shelby. The TDI clean diesel gets 42 mpg.
Gee, maybe we can have a balance of doing good environmentally, lessening dependence on foreign oil, and actually not destroying jobs and economies. Ya think?
That is Audi's point in a series of ads about the Green Police, culminating in a great ad to be seen in the 4th quarter tomorrow. Good for Audi in taking their stand.
Yes, that is Cheap Trick with a new version of their ‘80s hit, DREAM POLICE. Way to go, Audi.
Diesel’s the way to go.
very kewl
Straight alcohol with a blower...
Green 700 horse power.
Love Andy the Anteater! LOL
Having just recently bought my first diesel I’m now a true believer.Forty two miles per gallon on the highway and, when you tap the pedal it goes like a bat out of hell.I could give two $hits about my “carbon footprint” or how much my new ride pollutes (and I guess it doesn’t).It’s fun...and I can see myself ever buying another “gasser”.
yeah, my next vehicle will be a diesel 4x4 for sure. Should have gone that route with my last vehicle.
Hmmm. The moonbats don’t care much for Audi’s ads. They WANT people to be arrested for using the wrong light bulb.
Does this mean that Pelosi’s pet project “Green the Capitol” unveiled Zero-Emission Electric Vehicle has competition?

Thanks DFU. :’)

I'm looking for an 4x4 S-10 sized pick-up with a 4cyl TDI that can deliver 35+ MPG freeway. If AUDI can get 42mpg out of their’s, surely you can develop and deliver an engine that delivers mid 30’s MPG.
I don't need or want the behemoth sized pickup with the V-8 Cummins diesels that get in the low 20’s and get stuck or can't go into the tight places.
Thank You,
U.S. Citizen
According to the review below, this new Audi is 2 inches lower, a foot or more shorter, and 9 inches wider than the VW Jetta. The VW Jetta appears to get similar mileage (low 40s with stick transmission, low 30s with auto). The prices for the Audi appear to be in the $30s with the VW starting at $17K and going into the mid to high $20K. The Audi appears to be an economical replacement for the BMW.
At 2 inches lower, someone who drives over country gravel roads would have more problems with the Audi. Also, remember Audi has had reliability problems in the past. I have no experience with Audi’s myself. I had a Volkswagen many moons ago.The last link is an Audi forum.

I care about GREEN in my wallet!
These numbers are misleading or inaccurate. The A3 and Jetta are built on the same basic platform. The A3 is 10 inches shorter and 1.4 inches lower (overall height). The ground clearance is 1.1 inch less for the A3 at 4.3 inches. The width of the A3 is only greater if you count the mirrors, which protrude more. The body width, wheel base, front and rear tracks, and curb weight are almost identical for the two cars.
Ping for your ping list.
I have a gas engined A3, and am on some Euro car forums where the A3 and Jettas with this engine have been discussed. The guys that have have had these things are pretty happy in general. They seem to do better with the DSG transmission over the manual, which makes sense. Nice having those quick shifts with little rev drop with a diesel with a relatively lower rev range, as compared to a gas engine.
Audi has a 3.0 TDI v6 engine that does 7.2 l/100km in the A4, which is slightly over 30mpg. It would probably do right at 30 mpg in an S10 sized truck. 236 bhp, 369 ft·lb, so plenty gutsy.
Exactly correct. Both cars are built on what is known as the MkV platform, the 5th generation Golf platform. Golf, Jetta, and A3 all share much commonality. Jetta is longer due to being morphed into a traditional trunk sedan vs. a hatch like Golf and A3. The Jetta sportwagen is very much a bigger vehicle than an A3. A3 is a “higher content” more luxo car, with a higher price tag to go with that.
