Scott Brown ran on being against Obama's socialist healthcare, for fiscal conservatism and as the "41st" vote against the Obama agenda of communism and anti-Americanism.
The MSM is trying to destroy him by accusing him of not being "independent" enough if he votes with the Republicans while also trying to paint him to GOP as "not conservative and Republican enough".

"And let me say this, with respect to those who wish to harm us, I believe that our Constitution and laws exist to protect this nation - they do not grant rights and privileges to enemies in wartime. In dealing with terrorists, our tax dollars should pay for weapons to stop them, not lawyers to defend them." ---- Scott Brown, Victory Speech Jan 2010
Is there such a thing as an “Independent” Democrat?
Hey professor Scala, rotate on this.
We go to professor Larry Sabato for all our stupid liberal advice.
“fiscally conservative, socially moderate, independent-minded”
Luckily Obama, Nancy and Harry are fiscally irresponsible, socially radical and hard core partisans. So I don’t think there is too much worry of them presenting any reasonable. And if they do come up with something reasonable (i.e. a tort reform bill), he should give it consideration.
I suspect after the elections of 2010, he’ll fit right into the mainstream.
You can sense the bias in this article in the very first sentence. You'll never see the Washington Post say a Democrat should be a centrist to work with Republicans.
What a joke.
To the WP, the "center" is halfway between Nancy Pelosi and Fidel Castro.
"Brown's challenge will be to turn himself into a Democrat in order to induce the DC power structure to invite him to a cocktail party."
When did Ted Kennedy ever adhere to any of that?
Never stopped the swimmer from regularly being re-elected for over 40 years, did it?
Oh, ya. Absolutely. I mean all the politicians from Massachusetts are like this. Barney Frank, Marty Meehan, Lurch, Cadillac Duval, etc. All fiscally conservative, socially moderate and independent-minded.
((who is this Dante idiot?))
The Washington Post arrogantly assume they direct Scot Brown what to do..not the people of Massachusetts.
Somehow I’m sure Scott fully understands who he answers to.
These people are idiots..delusional...they think Scott is an amateur..a bumpkin..he’s been a successful GOP pol in Mass, elected many times....beating Dem oponents...that’s like being behind enemy lines for a decade..
Also, after he was sworn in, a reporter asked him how he felt about being the 60th vote and Scott quickly reminded that reporter that he was the 41st vote!! I don’t think he’ll let us down!

The problem with this whole idyllic “fiscally conservative, socially moderate” Northeastern Republican is that they’re almost NEVER there for us on fiscal issues either!
I don’t expect Scott Brown to be leading the charge on a Constitutional marriage amendment or prayer in school, but I damn well expect him to vote against higher taxes and push a pro-growth agenda, not work to make the Porkulus bill suck just a lttle less like Snowe/Collins.
No one will convince me that being anti-tax is a liability in the tax-smothered New England states.
"Show me just what Mohammed brought that was new, and there you will find only things evil and inhuman, such as his command to spread by the sword the faith he preached." - Manuel II Palelogus
The ComPost didn’t wait long to start trying to make trouble. This is not a news article, it’s an Alinski attack. But kind of a dumb one.
Didn’t Brown already say he supported Obama on Afghanistan?
