Scott Brown says he's a different kind of Republican, a centrist willing to work with Senate Democrats to fix health care and the ailing economy.
But his independent bent is likely to be sorely tested in a bitterly divided Senate where party loyalty is often at a premium.
"If he wants to have a future in Massachusetts politics, Brown has to live up to being a New England Republican - fiscally conservative, socially moderate, independent-minded," said Dante Scala, a University of New Hampshire political science professor.
"Is Obama going to try to craft some room for himself in the center?" Scala said. "If so, Brown might be something of an ally."

Scott Brown ran on being against Obama's socialist healthcare, for fiscal conservatism and as the "41st" vote against the Obama agenda of communism and anti-Americanism.
The MSM is trying to destroy him by accusing him of not being "independent" enough if he votes with the Republicans while also trying to paint him to GOP as "not conservative and Republican enough".

Luckily Obama, Nancy and Harry are fiscally irresponsible, socially radical and hard core partisans. So I don’t think there is too much worry of them presenting any reasonable. And if they do come up with something reasonable (i.e. a tort reform bill), he should give it consideration.
I suspect after the elections of 2010, he’ll fit right into the mainstream.
You can sense the bias in this article in the very first sentence. You'll never see the Washington Post say a Democrat should be a centrist to work with Republicans.

Of course there isn't. And, it's quite clear from the legislation passed this year with TOTAL Democrat support, there's no such thing as a fiscally conservative Democrat, either.
These people are idiots..delusional...they think Scott is an amateur..a bumpkin..he’s been a successful GOP pol in Mass, elected many times....beating Dem oponents...that’s like being behind enemy lines for a decade..
As a guy who has lived in the NoVa/DC area off and on since I was a child, I can promise you that everyone in elected national office gets invited - and goes - to those Georgetown/Foggy Bottom cocktail parties. Liberal and Conservative alike - everyone from Barney Frank to Fred Thompson go to those book parties, embassy parties, misc fundraisers etc.
The dirty little secret no one talks about or admits is that entertaining in DC is no longer done by the "elites" of DC, but by lobbyist. When you go to these parties - and I've been to more than a few - you'll notice that although they may be in someone's home, they're sponsored by a lobbyist and sometimes even a liquor company. It's not at all unusual to see a "Grey Goose" or some other liquor company's signage up.

The problem with this whole idyllic “fiscally conservative, socially moderate” Northeastern Republican is that they’re almost NEVER there for us on fiscal issues either!
I don’t expect Scott Brown to be leading the charge on a Constitutional marriage amendment or prayer in school, but I damn well expect him to vote against higher taxes and push a pro-growth agenda, not work to make the Porkulus bill suck just a lttle less like Snowe/Collins.
No one will convince me that being anti-tax is a liability in the tax-smothered New England states.
