WASHINGTON A blizzard battered the Mid-Atlantic region Saturday, with emergency crews struggling to keep pace with the heavy, wet snow that has piled up on roadways, toppled trees and left thousands without electricity.
Officials urged people to huddle at home and out of the way of emergency crews. Forecasters said the storm could be the biggest for the nation's capital in modern history.
A record 2 1/2 feet or more was predicted for Washington. As of early Saturday, 10 inches of snow was reported at the White House, while parts of Maryland and West Virginia were buried under more than 20 inches. Forecasters expected snowfall rates to increase, up to 2 inches per hour through Saturday morning.
Blizzard warnings were issued for the District of Columbia, Baltimore, parts of New Jersey and Delaware, and some areas west of the Chesapeake Bay.

I miss sliding down big snowy hills on chunks of cardboard and flying saucers
“I’m sure there is a law that forbids that type of activity now. “
No, just a reprimand if you’re a Brit cop sliding on your riot shield.
Hey, my pizza is gonna be cold now!

MONTREAL--Washington is one of many cities in the East being battered by snow today, and reports this morning indicate that travel into and out of that area is treacherous, at best.
That's an issue for the Penguins, who will face Montreal today at 2:08 p.m. at the Bell Centre but are scheduled to play Washington at the Verizon Center Sunday at 12:08 p.m.
Team officials still are trying to settle on the best way to get the team to Washington after the game against the Canadiens Because virtually all air traffic into that region has been stopped, one option might be to fly as close as they can, then take a train or bus the rest of the way.
Of course, that assumes that the trains are running or that the highways are passable.
While there's no indication yet that Sunday's game will be postponed, it's a possibility that, for obvious reasons, hasn't been ruled out, either.

Congrats to the Hershey Bears on their phenomenal win streak! we love our little brothers up in hershey!
I feel sorry for pizza delivery people. Our local radio begged listeners to tip during the storm, even if it was late. Pizza Hut delivery person called into station saying people refusing to tip.
This just proves that Global Warming is a lot worse than originally predicted.
