Tea Party turns nasty: ‘It’s our country – let’s take it back’

They will proudly boast of how they have galvanised ordinary Americans against runaway government spending, but a dark underbelly of xenophobia has been exposed at the first national gathering of the Tea Party movement...

The anti-Government, anti-Establishment movement, which has splintered in the past week with many boycotting this gathering, has billed itself as a revolution born of the widespread disgust at Washington and the way that the nation’s politicians are bankrupting America’s future.

Yet the speech that opened the Nashville event yesterday, an address greeted with whoops and cheers from the mainly white audience, reflects a movement that also appears to have a less attractive side to it.

Tom Tancredo, a former Republican congressman who ran for president in 2008 on an anti-illegal immigration platform, said of the voters who elected Mr Obama: “They could not even spell the word ‘vote’ or say it in English and they put a committed socialist ideologue in the White House — Barack Hussein Obama!”

Decrying America’s multiculturalism, Mr Tancredo said that Republicans and Democrats had voted for a black man because they felt they had to. To a standing ovation, he shouted: “We really do have a culture to pass on to our children: it’s based on Judaeo-Christian values.”

“This is our country,” he declared. “Let’s take it back!” He added, to applause: “Cultures are not the same. Some are better. Ours is best!” The crowd, some wearing recently purchased T-shirts saying “Keep the change — I’ll keep my FREEDOM my GUNS and my MONEY”, loved it...

One featured speaker, a “Patriot Pastor” named Rick Scarborough, told The Times that he was not against legal immigrants “but God has ordained that you are not a nation if you don’t have borders”...

My district in Tampa is a gerrymandered Communist set up. I plan on supporting Teap Party types around the country in winnable districts while at the same time making life miserable for my local Congresscommie.

Absolutely correct. Europe in general is starting to wake up from the nasty socialist/political correctness that has been destroying them and their culture.

I only wonder if it is too late.

Every ‘story” I’ve seen in the MSM regarding the Tea Party Convention/movement in the last week has had only one objective: To marginalize the entire movement in the eyes of the biggest political party out there, the independents.

But when a long train of abuses and usurpations, pursuing invariably the same object evinces a design to reduce them under absolute despotism, it is their right, it is their duty, to throw off such government, and to provide new guards for their future security.

This is the same old tired tactic the left has been using from their worn out play book. By inferring that the attendees at the tea parties are “primarily angry white people” they try to make the issue racial when in fact it is the furthest thing from the truth. Protesting conservatives are always viewed by the press as “angry.” Protesting leftists are viewed as looking to bring about trans formative “change.”

The one thing that is becoming abundantly clear is that they are deathly afraid of the tea party movement and for good reason. It's this same movement that could easily sweep them out of power in an historic way come November.

The British press is the same as ours. They do not represent the real people. There are plenty of regular people in Britain who are outraged and frightened about their country being overrun by muslim extremists, etc. They are also sick of being called racists. They have lots of Facebook groups regarding the subject. I have many as FB friends.

When the thugs come out to beat down blacks at these events, it doesn’t suprise me their representation is light.

However, there were a number of blacks I saw at the 9/12 march.

At the Walter Reed vigil, which is in a predominantly black area, blacks were not in the crowd but most that drove past honked in support from there cars.

Another undeniable truth is that Marx is celebrated in hip hop music and lets face it 90+% of blacks voted for Obama and regardless of what he does will not go back on their commitment to him.

I drove though a rough neighborhood in Detroit this week. Painted on the side of a building was a homemade mural with MLK and Obama looking skyward. It read, “I have a Dream” and “I am the Dream”.

The charge of racism is so tired now, it’s getting laughable.

Indeed. Imagine Zimbabwe, Japan, Mexico or any of them. How about Haiti? Even with their plight do you think they want to quit being Haitian? Give up their culture & identity? Do you think they want to be invaded by massive amounts of Asians or Westerners? They want our help, want our money, but that is where it stops. Yet we are supposed to embrace it all? We are supposed to sacrifice ourselves, families and communities for the masses. White Westerners are supposed to pretend they are Borg, have no culture or history, at least none worth preserving.

I think the conservative independents need to continue with what works; Loosely-organized protests/gatherings that speak to the heart of the American Experience….Freedom!

It is way too soon politically, to be branded/labeled by the very entities that would prefer our demise.
