“Obama mispronounced the word “Corpsman” as “corpse-man.”

I would assume that in his case it’s wishful thinking.

Corpse Man?

Sounds like a new Obama superhero!

Maybe it’s one of those shovel-ready jobs.

As a former nuclear medicine tech, every time I would hear a president say it, it would grate on me...until I found a way to rationalize it!

Grade three music class, learning the Marines' Hymn.
Miss Dech was very clear on the pronunciation.

(unless you count my dad and 7 uncles who served)

Sorry, that doesn't count for you.

I didn’t really think so, so you don’t HAVE to have served to know how to pronounce it.

And of course, does Bush really mispronounce nuclear or does he just pronounce it like Texans do?

He pronounces it like carter did.

The craziest part of the overall exchange is that it appears that some folks mistake not jumping on the pronunciation bandwagon as evidence of support for Obama. That’s just hilarious.

As for nukular being a correct pronunciation, no, it is not. There is no vowel sound after the c and before the l. To insert one there is not regional speak, it is erroneous speak. Nothing small minded, east coast, or elitist about it.

Just like the p is silent in corpsman, there is no vowel sound between the c and l in nuclear. And to put one there (like pronouncing the p in corpsman) is simply incorrect.

But, of course, I live on the east coast north of DC but south of the Mason Dixon line :-) And I have a liberal arts college degree. 2 out of 3 strikes against me.

That’s why he reads it. He’s too lazy to memorize anything.
He only has his community organizing routines down pat.

He should know something about the service.
A president with some experience would know this.

He has nothing to prove to me he is qualified to do anything but agitate and try convincing people to stay victims to further their own wealth.

*Nukular” is the way the word is pronounced in certain parts of the country.*

And it’s still wrong.

I hate this excuse “Well, it’s acceptable in [insert place].” No, it’s not. Is 2+2 5 in “certain parts of the country”?

The simple fact is that there are places where “nuclear” is pronounced “nukular”, just as “pecan” is pronounced “pee-kan”. There are no places where “corpsman” is pronounced “corpse man”. One pronunciation is a regional dialect. The other is flat-out wrong.

How many syllables in your pronunciation of nuclear? I say it with three. Can it be said with only two?

Imagine if Palin had done this.

I think Sarah should mispronounce it purposely just to see the media reaction. Then when the media start snickering about her lack of intelligence, she can just say she was using the CiC's pronunciation.

Yeah that is pretty much known but a president should know ‘some’ things.
He’s a dumbazz puppet. He’s sickening to hear or watch.

Most important jobs in America, now require a person to have at least a Bachelor degree.

Why not the office of President of the United States?

Do we have any proof that this thug even stepped foot in a college (not to mention his birth certificate issue)!!

I’m sure the MSM and SNL will make as big a deal about the Obama slip as they did Bush’s ‘nucular’./s And if it is okay for the MSM to ridicule presidential missteps, how could it make FR look bad to engage in the same?
