At last! GOP plays hardball

Illinois Democrats nominated Alex Giannoulias to run for the Senate seat vacated by Barack Obama. As Richard Baehr noted Monday on AT, Giannoulias has substantial weaknesses that could enable Congressman Mark Kirk, the Republican nominee, to take the seat in November.

The GOP Senatorial Campaign Committee is wasting no time in focusing on Guannoulias's shady past, something that may resonate with Illinois voters, sick of Democrat machine corruption that has left the state arguably in worse fiscal shape than California.

There’s still time to find a CONSERVATIVE for Republicans to run, rather than Kirk!

No that just about sums up his positions.

Kirk had to go on the offensive quickly. He is such a turbo RINO that he had a real possibility of causing a party split like NY-23. So by going after the Dem full bore he is trying to make the race about the other guy rather than about him. He has to make Mr G. so scary that the Tea Party crowd will not take the risk of him letting into office.

Kirk is not only a RINO, but he is a smart, ruthless, opportunistic, and completely unprincipled RINO. You know a typical Illinois Republican. I so need to move to another state.:(

It makes sense to have a Lindsey Graham as Senator for IL. What doesn’t make sense is to have a Lindsey Graham as Senator for SC.

Next June, five months before the midterm elections, Blagojevich goes on trial for attempting to sell the Senate seat for which Giannoulias and Kirk will be battling. The name Rezko will be a staple of the proceedings and of what are sure to be shocking headlines. The trial will be covered by every reporter with a pulse - local, state, national, international.

Sounds like popcorn time.

And a real headache for Ozero.

Popcorn indeed.

“Blagojevich’s trial begins in June...many here expect White House Chief of Staff Rahm Emanuel and Senior Adviser to the President Valerie Jarrett will both be required to testify since their voices are reportedly on some of the FBI’s blago-wiretaps.”

I dont live in Illinois but apparently he claims to be a fiscal conservative and social “moderate” which means he is probably a RINO
i konw he voted for cap and trade but now says he is against it (flip flopper)
i also know that he has attempted to tack to the right and supposedly was asking for Palin’s endorsement.
this all being said i would still vote for this guy in the general for two reasons
1. this is Obama territory and if any R wins particularly big O’s former Senate seat it will be a huge victory.
2. this being a pretty blue state probably the best it can hope for is a RINO

I assume that’s why he threw his White House Counsel (Gregory Craig) and Deputy Counsel (Cassandra Butts) under the bus and hired his personal lawyer as White House Counsel.

Sorry. He is. Kirk voted for Cap & Trade.

GOP plays hardball for the benefit of a guy, who could fit right in with the Democrat Party. What's the point?

Excellent idea! Let’s hope the good people of SC will ship Loose Loafer Lindsey up to IL, so that he can replace Dickie Dustbin!

It would be interesting if we could start trading pols like professional ball players.

‘Cept I’d want to go international. I’d take the UK’s Daniel Hannan in a minute, as he’s probably wasted over there and they’d likely be happy with Al Franken, who could become their Minister of Silly Walks.

I pointed this out years ago as the debate was raging over the David recall in CA... the GOP would cheerlead for Hillary Clinton if the only change she made was to put an (R) behind her name...

Yes, Kirk is FAR from ideal. However, his stance on immigration is strong. AGAINST amnesty, FOR border fences, etc. Just looking at the silver lining, here.

Kirk is a sheep in wolves clothing. the only difference between Kirk and Giannoulias is the letter next to the name. No good choices in this one other than keeping one of Obama’s close friends from getting the seat.
