Steele weathering disaffection in RNC
The Washington Times ^ | 02/04/2010 | By Ralph Z. Hallow

Michael S. Steele has maneuvered through a minefield of internal discontent, emerging from a critical party gathering with his authority intact....

High-profile Republican gubernatorial wins in Virginia and New Jersey and a victory in the recent special Senate election in Massachusetts have helped quiet grumbling within the RNC over Mr. Steele, whose position and authority seemed shaky just a few months ago.

A feared open revolt against the former Maryland lieutenant governor fizzled at the 168-member RNC's winter gathering in Honolulu over the weekend, despite lingering questions...

In the view of RNC General Counsel Reince Priebus, who is also Wisconsin GOP state chairman, the "embattled" label on Mr. Steele "is nothing but fiction."

Mr. Steele is "popular with the members of the RNC, and he is doing a fantastic job in raising money, winning elections and keeping members happy," Mr. Priebus said.

Some RNC members critical of Mr. Steele said the party's recent election victories, the need for party unity and improving prospects for November have quieted - for now - questions about his leadership and the RNC's role in the party's rebound...

...proposed resolutions intended to discourage him - and party leaders in general - from giving RNC money and campaign advice to primary and general election candidates who dont endorse a set list of policies and philosophical principles.

He fought the resolutions - derided as a "purity test" by opponents - as an infringement on his authority and a challenge to the party's "big-tent" approach to expanding its base.

...approved instead what appeared to be a watered-down compromise version of the motion...

The RNC reported that it has less cash on hand now than when Mr. Steele took office ($8.7 million now, compared with $22.8 million a year ago), with smaller contributions up but major donations down...

maybe the RNC is simply becoming less relevant to directing the energies of GOP voters. Anyone hear anything newsworthy coming out of Honolulu?

Fund raising will tell, won’t it? Even though the RNC wastes money on direct mail to me, they get no money from me. I give to the candidate, not the party

Steele can go play with tinker toys for all I care. He is a peter principle disaster the GOP leadership is evidently unwilling to fix, so we flow right past them

It’s a good thing keeping the money out of RNC (Washington, D.C. insiders) hands.

Summary: $14 million dollars squandered on unwinnable RINO
contests, while the WINNING contests were allowed to ‘win on their own’. The RNC hangs back with minimal committment
until the challenger’s numbers look good enough for the RNC to grudgingly admit that ‘yeah, he looks better than the Dem”. Sometimes it backfires, like in NY23 , where the Republican urged her supporters to VOTE for the Dem.

In other words, Michael Steele is another money squandering 0bama. This fool is more interested in using his position in the RNC to sell books than in actually running the place. When is this incompetent loser up for reelection?

Mailings have increased and also phone calls. I tell them they are not actually responsible for the won elections and it is best for me to decide to whom I will give money. My personal wants trump RNC decision until they rid themselves of liberal plague

NYuk NYuk Nyuk, Massachusettes and Illinoisy..
