Chavez turns to Cubans for help with energy crisis

CARACAS, Venezuela – President Hugo Chavez has turned to his friends in Cuba for help in tackling Venezuela's energy crisis, drawing criticism for seeking advice from the communist-led island that has struggled with its own electricity woes.

Chavez gave few details on Wednesday about what is expected of Cuba, but insisted that "it's valuable experience that's serving us well." He said that he spoke for hours Tuesday with Cuban Vice President Ramiro Valdes after his arrival in Venezuela to lead the consulting team.

The decision to seek help from Cuba bewildered Venezuelans coping with the nation's power shortage.

"It's laughable that he's looking for help from Cuba," said Aixa Lopez, director of the Committee for People Affected by Power Outages, which monitors the extent of current energy shortages and rationing in Venezuela.

What an odd article. You have to read between the lines to figure out what exactly Chavez expects the Cubans to do there, but it seems obvious that they are to teach the Venezuelans how to live in scarcity and privation.

Chavez blamed a drought

It's remarkable how this "drought" somehow manages not to affect the economy of neighboring, captialist Columbia.

Too bad Chubby hates the Jews. They could probably teach him a thing or two on how to make oil burning lights last a bit longer.

You can always tell how much of a leftist the author is by statements like this:

he ran Cuba's Electronic Group, overseeing technology projects and skirting the U.S. trade embargo by importing tons of equipment into Cuba through third-party nations.

The United States does not have warships positioned around Cuba stopping them from trading with other nations.

The United States is the only country in the world that has imposed trade sanctions on Cuba. They are free to trade with any other country that wants to trade with them.

Cuba's problem, which is systemic to all socialist paradises, is that they have nothing to trade. If they did, other countries would trade with them. What Cuba needs, as will Venezuela, is a benefactor like the old Soviet Union; they need foreign aid to keep their murderous regimes in power.

I'm surprised that the 0bama0 gang hasn't rammed through a few billions for these criminals.

good point. Colombia is booming..BOOMING! I was there before Christmas and will be going back in a few days. Colombianos take great pride in their country and are very determind to move away from the problems of the past.

Oh the other hand many Venezolanos are stuck, cant get out, money is devalued and worthless and hatred towards Chaves is common...but still underground.

Obama and the RATS will try to keep him in power.

Just some background info.
Chaves gets 70%+ of his power from a hydodam, which is why they are having problems. I’m sure that the reason He’s turned to Castro is the free/low cost oil he’s been providing Cuba for about a decade. He was going to do rolling blackouts though out the country but that failed just after the currency devaluation.

“A Downward Spiral in Latin America”
By Douglas Farah

SNIPPET: “The first is the decision of Venezuelan president Hugo Chávez to bring on board a senior Cuban official with a long time specialty in internal security and torture to act as a consultant on Venezuela’s energy crisis.

What Ramiro Valdes, one of the four remaining “originals” of the 1959 revolution, can bring on the electrical side is open to question, given that Cuba is not a model of electrical efficiency and management. What he can bring is a strong sense of how to control the internal opposition and make repression more efficient, which is his specialty.

This leads to my second concern. As Chávez grows more beleaguered and under siege, the one card he holds to wreak havoc in the region is his relationship with the FARC in Colombia.”

“The Downward Spiral in Latin America”
POSTED BY DOUGLAS FARAH

SNIPPET: “A fourth issue is the eroding freedom of expression across the Bolivarian sectors of Latin America. It was driven home to me after the release of our new report on Ecuador, Ecuador at Risk. Not only has the ordered his ambassador in Washington to see if he can sue us, his government has threatened to try to find my sources.

So one can only imagine the censorship that goes on in the local media in Venezuela, Ecuador, Bolivia and Nicaragua. Chilling indeed.

As this German press report shows, we did not go into all the details on Ecuador’s problems. It is about to be listed by FATF as a high-risk country for financial transactions because it has not ratified 48 of the 49 conventions on fighting money laundering and terror finance.”

The only question I have is..

Who do they attack?

They are the gubamint now..

They will be forced to openly wage war on the people... something Cuba has done for years.. and Hugo is a fast study of.

Could be one helluvapalooza coming soon to that area..

CARACAS, Venezuela — Iran is helping to detect uranium deposits in Venezuela and initial evaluations suggest reserves are significant, President Hugo Chavez’s government said Friday.

Mining Minister Rodolfo Sanz said Iran has been assisting Venezuela with geophysical survey flights and geochemical analysis of the deposits, and that evaluations “indicate the existence of uranium in western parts of the country and in Santa Elena de Uairen,” in southeastern Bolivar state.

Intelligence Report: Iran Will Use Latin America to Attack US, Israel
Arutz Sheva ^ | Published: 04/20/09, 2:06 PM | by Malkah Fleisher
Posted on April 20, 2009 3:28:31 PM PDT by lewisglad

Just two days after US President Barack Hussein Obama shared a controversial and landmark handshake with Venezuelan dictator Hugo Chavez at the Summit of the Americas, the Intelligence and Terrorism Information Center has released a study analyzing the flowering alliance between the increasingly anti-Western Latin America and the virulently anti-Israel Iran.

The study was conducted at the Israel Intelligence Heritage & Commemoration Center (IICC), a non-governmental organization dedicated to Israeli intelligence and terrorism issues.

According to the study, Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad is using anti-Western Hugo Chavez as a springboard into several Latin American countries, such as Bolivia, Nicaragua, and Ecuador, where he intends to establish a religious, terrorist, political and economic foothold in South America. Iran has already made major inroads in its relationship with Venezuela and Bolivia, largely based on shared anti-American sentiments.

Iran will utilize this developing relationship to challenge the United States, parts of Asia, and Africa, said the study.

The Islamic Republic will also leverage petrodollars and Muslim operatives positioned throughout key Latin American countries to implement a radical anti-Western agenda, fight America’s anti-nuclear policy, and to slash international economic sanctions according to the IICC.

In addition, the report warns that Iran may launch anti-American and anti-Israel terror attacks through intelligence and terror networks in South American countries.

Khomeini-inspired Shi’ite Islamic and Iranian revolutionary propaganda is being exported by Iran into non-Muslim and Muslim communities in Latin America, in large part through its terror proxy, Hizbullah, which is raising funds for operation by uniting with South American drug and crime cartels.

The IICC report cites several U.S. intelligence and military officials expressing concern over rising Iranian activity in Latin America, and increasing numbers of converts in the region to Islam.

Venezuela fall back on a reliable scapegoat(Going after the Jews)
National Post ^ | January 23, 2010 | David Frum

I picked an exciting week to visit Venezuela. The night before my arrival, the regime seized the country’s largest shopping mall. The day after, Israeli authorities disclosed that a recently intercepted shipment of missiles to Hezbollah had originated in Venezuela.

These two dissimilar events are importantly related. The seized mall belonged to one of Venezuela’s wealthiest Jewish families. Following an armed attack on the country’s most visible synagogue in January 2009, the seizure sent a strong message: None of you are safe.
