UPDATED: Mercy the abused kitten euthanized; damage too severe
The Missoulian ^ | February 3, 2010 | Keila Szpaller

A severely abused kitten named Mercy was put down Wednesday after doctors found her spine was broken.

"Her spine was just smashed," said Missoula Animal Control shelter attendant Barb Parker. "It only showed up on high resolution, but the vertebrae were just squished. He stomped her good and really hurt her back, so there was nothing to do."

The shelter adopted the kitten out only to see her returned this week after a brutal beating left her pelvis smashed and an eye filling with blood. The 4-month-old kitten's owner had allegedly tried to drown her in the toilet, and apparently had thrown the animal against the wall or stomped on its back, crushing the pelvis. Part of the cat's head was shaved.

From the article:

"His name is Nemo. He can swim. The whole litter was thrown in the river," Moltzen said.
Nemo was the only survivor.

We have a few other kitties, but it still hurts.

I had to put down my 7 year old orange Tabby due to renal failure last year. It does hurt, but at least they had a great, caring home. That's all they could ever ask for.

He's easy to find. I started to post an aerial view of where he lives, but thought better of it.

It's not supposed to be nice.

Miss Betty was with us for over 16 years. She had a good kitty life, but we still find ourselves looking for her.

When they are your kids that long it tears you up as I am sure you already know.

My cat Blackie died last year on Super Bowl Sunday of old age. I still miss her. Cosmo, the new arrival, is just the most dog like cat I’ve ever known. He loves to follow me around, to ride my shoulders and to lick the hair on my head. Its not easy to win a cat’s love but once its earned, you just have admire such a beautiful animal. I just love everything about cats from their beauty, their dignity and the way they repay the love and care you give to them.

Go ahead and pass it over to 4Chan. They will know what to do with it.

Every day I continue to lose faith in humanity.

Why?

2 Timothy 3:1 This know also, that in the last days perilous times shall come.

2 For men shall be lovers of their own selves, covetous, boasters, proud, blasphemers, disobedient to parents, unthankful, unholy,

3 Without natural affection, trucebreakers, false accusers, incontinent, fierce, despisers of those that are good,

4 Traitors, heady, highminded, lovers of pleasures more than lovers of God;

5 Having a form of godliness, but denying the power thereof: from such turn away.

6 For of this sort are they which creep into houses, and lead captive silly women laden with sins, led away with divers lusts,

7 Ever learning, and never able to come to the knowledge of the truth.

8 Now as Jannes and Jambres withstood Moses, so do these also resist the truth: men of corrupt minds, reprobate concerning the faith.

9 But they shall proceed no further: for their folly shall be manifest unto all men, as their's also was.

Pet ownership is a privilege not a right. Pets are not toys; they are living creatures that deserve to be treated with consideration, kindness and love. They are totally dependent on us for survival. If we’re not going to assume the responsibility that comes with having a pet, don’t get one. The reason we keep pets is they give us love and alleviate our loneliness. I was shocked at what I read. You may have to discipline your pet sometimes but using wanton violence and beating it to death is unworthy of being a human being. How we treat a pet is a reflection on our character and on G-d’s judgment of us.

The past 3 years, I lost of my 4 original fur friends…very old kitties…19,18,15 and 14…

I used to pray that God would take them before me…
I did not want to leave them behind and be at the mercy of strangers…

THEN…. God..( who, I truly believe, has a quirky sense of humor)…. sent me 5 newbie’s……wasn’t looking for them..... they just showed up…sick, injured, hungry and very scared….

Guess God intends to keep me around for a while longer…….. ;-)

I bet the breed of your cat is a Maine Coon.

No. Cosmo is an Oriental/DSH black cat. He is very sweet and loving. This is a cat that loves laps.

Mine are spoiled and feel they are free to do whatever they want. My fault, though, I never really disciplined them when they were kittens.

They know they're doing something wrong when I raise my voice at them, but usually they just ignore me. I have been looking online and found that using a spray bottle with water works wonders.

Read Gitta Sereny’s book, Into that Darkness, and you’ll never have any faith in humanity ever again.

Too bad there wasn’t some way the POS who did this could be injected with some virus to give him arthritis in every joint in his body so every waking moment of the rest of his life would be spent in total agony. I know that vengeance is supposed to be left to God but these stories make me enraged and cry at the same time.

2 years ago this month I had to release my then 25-year old kitty Musica. It hurts as much now as it did then.

A 25 YO kitty? You did an amazing job taking care of that baby and my heart feels your loss. It takes a long time to just remember the good things and get over the grief...a really long time.

As far as the monster who did this to this kitten, may he rot in hell.

True, because they worshiped a pagan cat god named Bastet.

But we don't live in Ancient Egypt, do we?
