Inmate released early is arrested in rape attempt

Kevin Eugene Peterson got out of jail Monday night after serving about two months on a four-month sentence for violating probation on a prior felony conviction. Peterson was arrested 12 hours later, around 12:30 p.m. Tuesday, on suspicion of an attempted rape involving a female counselor at the 1300 block of North C Street, a Sacramento Police Department spokesman said. He was booked into the Sacramento County jail at 3:21 p.m. Tuesday on suspicion of attempted rape, sexual battery, false imprisonment and violating the terms of his probation.
"Our greatest fear has occurred almost immediately after the early release of these inmates," said Christine Ward of the Crime Victims Action Alliance. "We are certain that we will see more of this as more inmates are released from jails and prisons."

Darn, now they have to house and feed him again and spend a couple hundred thousand on his trial. I’m sure the good people of California will be paying for his lawyer.

I can't be waitin around for 30 minutes to an hour for some singly deputy from a budget starved county sherrif's department because the stupid state done stole all the county's money!!! It's just NOT goin to happen!!!

Our jail is routinely full, so much so that there is a 6-9 month waiting list to serve time on lesser offences. I found out the other day that the Judges are filling the jail with people awaiting trial, so we have to push out the ones who have had their trial and are serving their sentences. That puts a whole new light on the issue. If folks aren’t getting a speedy trial it backs up the system.
