I'm a federal employee and I don't consider my insurance plan to be a "cadillac" plan.

I put in $350 a month and the government puts in $650. It has copays and the catastrophic cap is $7500 a year.

The problem with the federal employment these days is the explosive growth of the SES ranks. There is one agency I can think of specifically that has SES positions filled with people that never finished a four year degree, and it shows.

Bill Gates never finished his degree, but I agree he is the extreme exception. In all likelihood the people you refer to couldn't get hired to empty the trash at MSFT.

“I put in $350 a month and the government puts in $650. It has copays and the catastrophic cap is $7500 a year.”

You pay $350 a month? That’s almost nothing, considering the costs...try paying insurance if you are in a small company or self employed...or better yet, try running a small business while paying north of $1200 a month for each employee and yourself....but withour mentioning how much your salary is, $350 a month means nothing. If you are earning $3,500, for instance, it is quite a deal. If it’s more than that, it’s a steal. If it’s above $6,000 it’s a GIFT. Above that is theft. I also doubt that the Gubmint only spends $1,000 on a policy...those numbers don’t foot. And sorry, but if you think that there is a $7500 cap on Federal insurance, someone is yanking BOTH of your legs. But if by some chance it is true, you can buy a catastrophic rider yourself for next to nothing.

When someone says “ooooohh I pay XXX dollars...” without saying what PERCENTAGE of their pay it is...it’s like the old George Carlin joke about the partial Yankees/Boston score...Red Sox 4....it means nothing.

My husband is a Federal employee and I can say that our plan is far from a Cadillac" plan in terms of coverage. (Based on your numbers, we probably have the same plan.) However, if they manage to get HCR through, our plans DO become taxable as "Cadillac" plans.

My husband's agency has entirely too many people in DC at headquarters, all in SES positions, and they're all, almost to a person, bumbling idiots.

So between you and the go’vt. you pay $1000 a month ($12,000 a year)for a policy that only covers $7500 in expenses per year? I think you’re mistaken.

Uh, yeah that is Cadillac. Most companies barely match with withheld amounts and usually it goes in the other direction i.e. WE would be paying the $650.00 and the company would be paying $100.00.
