The Winchester 16ga was a good weapon too unless it was hand loaded with ball bearings as they found out during the Kansas City Massacre

An earlier post states that a less than 18” shotgun barrel requires only a five dollar tax stamp. However, it registers the gun and puts the owner on a special “all other weapons” list at the BATFE.
An 18” bbl on my 870 with a Pachmayr pistol grip works just fine for me and is legal with no additional paperwork.

AOW= $5 stamp
short-barreled shotgun= $200.
they have short-barreled shotgun category.
I’ve had to do the paperwork to own a Serbu Supershorty(junk, BTW) ...it was $5 stamp tax.

I stand corrected.
BTW, wasn’t that $200 transfer tax imposed in 1934 when NFA was passed, when a dollar was still a dollar?
Wonder why ChuckEschumer hasn’t tried to have it indexed for inflation?

Yeah they are AOW and the NFA tax is minuscule - it's not unheard of to pick up the guns for $400 or so when cop shops are selling them off. They are somewhat a niche weapon, and I think a bit short on rounds for the purposes many of us like to have a pump gun.
The specs don't mention breacher nozzles but it seems to me the 14 inchers have them quite often. I did not look up Remington's exact specs for that model number.
Why IRS thinks they need them is a mystery to me since there are already cops who will happily enforce bona-fide judicial orders in every state and county. Probably just a little extra stimulus money to spend to help out a small business or two.
Yeah that's gotta be it - nothing to get het up about at all.

Now maybe Rangel and Turbo Tim will pay their taxes . I think they should have gone for the 16.5’ barrel . Then it could be called the Shot Rod .

Presumably they mean fourteen inches. Wouldn't that be considered a 'sawed-off' shotgun, which is illegal last time I heard. That was twenty years ago, so perhaps things have changed. Not illegal, just highly regulated and taxed. In some states illegal. In others impossible to obtain because no chiefl LEO or DA will sign the paperwork.
That all applies to us peons, not the Government. They can have shotguns with 7" barrel if they want, and in some cases, they do.

Teddy Roosevelt’s musuem has some “shotguns” that are probably 8-foot long. Punt guns, for mounting on a small boat (a “punt”) and shooting ducks as they rested on the water. 1 or 2 guage as I recall. (More of a cannon than a shotgun).

Given that such weapons are only useful for “criminals and terrorists” (according to some government agents), well, that just about figures. Criminals and terrorists indeed.
