WASHINGTON Americas top intelligence official told lawmakers on Tuesday that he was highly certain that Al Qaeda or one of its affiliates would attempt a large-scale attack on American soil within the next six months. The assessment by Dennis C. Blair, the director of national intelligence, was much starker than his view last year, when he emphasized the considerable progress in the campaign to debilitate Al Qaeda and said that the global economic meltdown, rather than the prospect of a major terrorist attack, was the primary near-term security concern of the United States.
Citing a recent wave of terrorist plots, including the failed Dec. 25 attempt to blow up an airliner as it approached Detroit, Mr. Blair and other intelligence officials told a Senate panel that Al Qaeda had adjusted its tactics to more effectively strike American targets domestically and abroad.
The biggest threat is not so much that we face an attack like 9/11, said Leon E. Panetta, the C.I.A. director. It is that Al Qaeda is adapting its methods in ways that oftentimes make it difficult to detect.

He could huff & puff all he wants about imposing martial law.
The real trick is getting the rest of us to willingly go along with it. Good luck.
“What is the duct tape for?”
I think the original posting was a sarcastic (?) referral to the former head of DHS, Tom Ridge, when he strongly urged folks to buy duct tape and heavy duty window plastic during a prior alert. (In other words, to build a “safe room” like the Israelis had during Desert Storm. Nowadays, most newly build Israeli homes/apartments have a built-in safe room with air supply and heavy duty doors/no windows.)
I fear you are correct.
we all need to start having our own Emergency plans, economic plans, buy guns, bottled water, food, ammo, gold, silver and find a place in rural area to retreat to.
No, not at all! What I was pointing out was that Obama had painted an international picture where the U.S. was the only “bad guy”. That position was inconsistent with having an external evil “foil”. Since Al Qaeda was more than willing to play the part, the administration may have decided that Al Qaeda will be used as their “bad guy” for diversionary purposes.
Anyone who believes Al-Qaeda is fake needs a reality check. It’s the old case of “just because you are paranoid does not mean that nobody is after you!”
Al Qaeda is a fake invention of the CIA? And, you refer to George W. as “Bush 43”? And, you accuse Bush of using Al Qaeda as a diversionary tactic? SERIOUSLY? Are you SURE you’re on the right website?
I think I smell a troll here...
He's trying to distract the people away from his failed policies. If they talk about terror, they won't talk about the unsustainable debt, the coming economic crash, the job losses, the housing losses, the high taxes, the increase in consumer goods.....etc.
"Don't look there. Look over here!"
ping
Stock up on ammo.....
Well I guess we could mke a list of Jihad holidays and Islamic battle days and narrow it down.
Maybe amadjihad has a date in mind?
THREE DAYS WORTH?????
How about three months, or better yet, three years worth?
Three days worth is enough for a person to carry as they hike out of NYC or some other large metropolitan area. Then they're screwed.
If it were the Bush administration saying this, many on the left would say it’s a smokescreen under which the evil neo-cons would grab more power.
Wonder what they are saying now?
Actually, I shouldn’t spend time wondering what idiots think.
They’d do better hitting the coffee supply.
I don't.....
I think he was expected to be successful.
Which is giving the thought that the government wants a successful attack to happen, more and more credibility by the day.
bring food, unopened bottles of scotch, vodka and crown royal, snickers bars, and any of your cute, single female friends. Preferrably redheads.
And all the ammo you have.
And cigars..not machine made..hand rolled..the kind that comes from humidors
They’re probably going to walk across our very porous southern border, while we’re all standing in security lines at the airports in our socks.
Fence? Who needs a fence?
Good catch.
I haven’t participated in a good IBTZ in a long time.....
So, here it is....
IBTZ!!!!!!!
for those of you determined to stay in large cities,,,you better have a shotgun because I can guarrantee you after a week the looters will be coming to visit you.
And they might not be nice about it.
Just saying...
We live in a tiny town with more cows and guns than people.
I think a week is being generous. I think the looting will start much sooner than that.
