The Nigerian man accused of trying to use a bomb hidden in his underwear to bring down a Detroit-bound airliner on Christmas Day has been cooperating with investigators since last week and has provided fresh intelligence in multiple terrorism investigations, officials said Tuesday.
Umar Farouk Abdulmutallab's cooperation could prove to be a national security victory and a political vindication for President Barack Obama, who has been under fire from lawmakers who contend the administration botched the case by giving Abdulmutallab the right to remain silent, rather than interrogating him as a military prisoner.
In the days following the failed bombing, a pair of FBI agents flew to Nigeria and persuaded Abdulmutallab's family to help them. When the agents returned to the U.S., Abdulmutallab's family came, too, according to a senior administration official briefed on the case. The official spoke on condition of anonymity because of the sensitivity of the case.
FBI officials continue to question Abdulmutallab, working in collaboration with CIA and other intelligence authorities, the official said. Obama has received regular updates on the interrogation, according to the official.
While the interrogation continued, White House and intelligence officials quietly seethed as political rivals accused them of putting lives at risk. That criticism peaked last weekend when Sen. Susan Collins of Maine, in the weekly Republican address, accused the administration of having "a blind spot when it comes to the war on terrorism."
Collins said the administration "undoubtedly prevented the collection of valuable intelligence about future terrorist threats to our country."
Authorities had hoped to keep Abdulmutallab's cooperation secret while they continued to investigate his leads, but details began to trickle out during testimony on Capitol Hill, where FBI Director Robert Mueller and Director of National Intelligence Dennis Blair confirmed authorities continued to get intelligence in Abdulmutallab's case.

Worse than that is the betrayal of the Abdulmutallab family members who have taken a huge risk by getting the bomber to cooperate. When they get home to Nigeria they'll be in great danger thanks to Obama and his hacks.
Obama is the greatest threat this country has ever had to endure. His regime will not end well.
If this is a leak/lead on from the administration, I would question the validity of it. I don’t trust anything from this outfit. At least take it with a grain of salt.
Looks like the FBI did a great job considering the guy tried to detonate it on the plane. Nice work.
Just more Pure 100% BULL MANURE from the Most Dispicable WHITE HOUSE in al of Our History!! Pure Bullcrappo! The Muslim Terrorists passed the word to the Bomber to blab some Inanities to protect their Ultimate MOLE!! Yep!! You got IT! Barry Soetoro............:-(
I there had been other attacks of the same nature planned in the same time frame then Bambi’s decision would have cost many lives ... information gleaned after the fact would have been useless.
That was my reaction, too. There are a lot of Muslims in Nigeria, and they rule the roost. His family will be in terrible danger.
As I said on another thread, I doubt whether they really learned anything of value, since anyone the bomber knows about has had plenty of time to disperse and hide.
This is purely cosmetic, to fight back against criticism of Zero for reading thiss terrorist Miranda “rights” instead of grilling him.
Moreover, his father already tried to help once earlier—when he warned the U.S. that his son was associating with dangerous terrorists and shouldn’t be allowed to fly. He probably figured that would keep his son away from planes and out of trouble.
I wonder what kind of deal the Government cut to get him to talk. Of course, the info is over a month old now and stale intelligence data is probably useless.
Wouldn’t surprise me that this is all made up. Sure, the guy probably told them about a couple of pals of his that work at the 7/11 and Obama is now saying they got the motherload. Pffft... Yeah, and what a coincidence that Feinstein took this line of questioning to help facilitate this “leak”. It all a grand Kabuki.
I doubt his lawyer would let him speak without some fantastic deal being made.
A house for them will be found in Alexandria, VA.
He’ll get life.
He could not get death because it is not allowed in moonbat land. The whole process is to save poiltical asses from repercussions over a death penalty
I hope it is true that they were able to get more info from the underpants bomber. We need that info to protect our country.
I do not agree that it vindicates the Obama administration however. It just means that they were lucky and got more info inspite of botching it in the beginning.
No one is going to say that they handled it correctly.
Dennis Blair was asked directly by a reporter today: “If we captured Osama bin Laden tonight, would we read him his Miranda Rights/”
The son of a bitch would NOT answer the question!
We are in deep trouble folks, and it’s a matter of time till we get hit again. There is no reason whatsoever to trust this crew in DC on anything.
LOL. Notice how Hussein's sycophants in the press go DIRECTLY FOR THE POLITICAL BENEFIT to Hussein?
This is coverup horsecrap. A pretend leak to make it look like Hussein is tough on terrorists. He isn't, and he isn't fooling anyone except the boobs who already believe everything he says anyway...
The terrorists know exactly what UFA knows.
And obviously he wasn’t the brightest bulb , so his knowledge, if any , is probably very limited.
Broadcasting that he is suddenly singing like a canary gives the the terrorists a heads up and jeopardizes any operations and operatives related to that info.
It’s bizarre that Mueller didn’t just say no comment or request that he be allowed to answer in private.
Unless he was instructed to go public by Barry and Eric.
Too bad that when it comes to revealing national security secrets Barry doesn’t advocate Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell.
Thank you Elli Light.
Hell...They'll end up staying here!!....or worst case....go home with so much money it wouldn't matter....
Get with the program
