If ObamaCare Passes, Will You Ever Be Able to Trust Your Doctor?
Pajamas Media ^ | Feb. 2 | James Lewis

If and when ObamaCoup passes, one-sixth of the economy will belong to the feds. The American Medical Association (AMA) and all the other medical unions (that’s what AMA comes down to) will go to D.C. to get their money, against fierce competition from the psychologists and social workers, who are also trying to get their share of the loot.

You and I will no longer be the main clients for our medical doctors. We won’t be in the loop. Your money will be forcibly extracted from your taxes, and when we get sick we will be passive recipients of the kindness of strangers — like Barney Frank and Harry Reid. And Nurse Ratched. It’s not your doctor anymore; it will be the state’s doctor.

I would not trust my doctor under socialism. Right now I think he is on my side. If I get some dread disease I think he will try to cure me. Why? Because we have the same incentive: my health and well-being. That’s not true anymore in Britain, where the National Institute for Health and Clinical Excellence (NICE) decides how much money the state can spend on you....

It needs to change. Current insurance policies are absolute garbage.

Give it a go and see what its like. If it don’t work, then change it again.

I don't trust my doctor now! He told my husband that “Obamacare will be good for you and good for me”. I was totally shocked and I want to find another doctor whether we get Obamacare or not!

One of my biggest fears w/Obamacare is that I will not be able to choose my insulin delivery system. Are you hearing anything about whether patients who use pens will have to go back to syringes, a cheaper method, for sure, but have substantive negative lifestyle implications for those of us who like the freedom of a pen?

Pen would most likely not be on the preferred list and if available would have a higher copay.
I am already seeing a hit on Medicare patients. So sad to me.

Sure, the health insurance industry could stand for some improvements. But do you really think that your hero, “Barak Obama” (as you wrote it), is interested in improving our current system?

Of course not. He wants to take over your health care lock, stock and barrel, and believe me, once that’s one there’s no changing back! There’s no “change it again” as you put it. You do realize how hard-ball politics works, don’t you?

...got a bill from my insurance for $12,500 as all my responsibility. Was between jobs and it turned out that I WAS covered by insurance by a day! Now the insurance “re-figures” the bill and only asks for $1500!

Where's the problem?

When you were thought to be uninsured, the entire bill was your responsibility.

When it was determined you actually were insured, you owed the $1500 deductible.

How much did the insurance pay the hospital on your behalf?

I don't see how this is "complete crap".

Because the insurance company (or hospital, rather) said the total cost of the care was 12,500 for me to pay without insurance.

When it was determined that there was insurance coverage they ‘re-calculated’ how much it ‘really’ costs and it was 1,500.

It has something to do with the Hospital having a ‘contract’ with the insurance company...some kind of ‘agreement’ that adjusts how much any procedure can cost.

Now, I call that CRAP.

Most docs are strong advocates for their patients and would be completely trustworthy no matter what system we have in place. However, most of those docs (including myself) will retire early before becoming a govt. employee. So the real question is will you be able to find a doc.

It is already getting more difficult to find new docs that are not foreign medical graduates. If Obamacare goes through, this will increase dramatically - good luck finding a US trained physician. And I still believe that docs educated in this country are the finest in the world. Our system may have flaws, but the education, research and development we have in the health care fields are unrivaled. It sickens me to think this is all on the verge of being destroyed.

The hospital charged $12,500 partly because of the law that prohibits them from charging anyone less than they charge any medicare patient. They inflate the charges over actual cost, not because they expect to collect that much, but rather as their own cushion against the unforeseen regulatory problems. They don’t want to go to jail for violating the complex regulations.

Their actual costs, including some allowance to pay for non-paying patients, is probably close to the $1500. If your insurance was medicare, they would probably allow the hospital to collect even less, less than their actual cost, maybe $1000, and of that medicare would pay $800 and the hospital would be required to bill you for the remaining $200.

Under this system, hospitals that accept medicare patients are likely to deteriorate. At the same time, the medicare insurance system is going bankrupt. Medicare is likely to find more and more creative ways to reduce their costs, like weighing the cost of your medical care against the dollar value of your life.

There is a lot of complete crap in here, but it comes from the complex regulations and cheesy payments associated with medicare, not from the private insurance company.

If you actually had been uninsured and responsible for paying the bill yourself, you could have told the hospital “How about I give you $2000 and we call it even?” and they probably would have gone for it.

Under Obamacare, you would have been given a bottle of pain medicine and told to come back in six months when the next available appointment was to actually get rid of the stone. If you were young and healthy otherwise. If you weren’t young and otherwise healthy, you’d be booking a flight to India to get treated.

Obamacare is CRAP

Doom on Obama’s plan.

Like I said earlier. It needs fixin! Fix it. If it dont work then keep fixing it till it does.

Somebody has got to do something and like now. Obama is pushing real hard for something to be done. No one else is.

I’ve heard about healthcare reform since Clinton and nothing has been done. Nothing. It’s been screwed up so much for so long and I’m sick of it.

God bless Barak Obama!!

Oh, sure. IT COULD HAPPEN!!

...negotiate with the hospital....they PROBABLY would have gone for it...

You’re high!

When this sort of things happen to me, negotiating isn’t the first thing that comes to mind. More like give them the finger!

The current system is so messed up it should be criminal.

Obamacare is doing something. Everyone else is doing nothing!

Go Obama!!!

You’re saying the hospital would accept $1500 as “Payment in full” from an insurance company but they wouldn’t accept $2000 from you as “Payment in full”?

And you expect to be taken seriously after an assertion like that?

It’s no wonder you love “Obamacare”.

One of us is certainly “high”, and I don’t think it’s me.

Obama is going to “fix” healthcare alright. He is going to FIX it to be like Canada, Holland, Cuba and other places. You are complaining about what it cost but what about when you can't get it at any price like the places I mentioned. Talk to people from Europe and other places who are put out of the system because they would cost too much to fix or they are too old to bother with, you might change your mind about our system.

Sorry to have set you off there pal. I haven’t seen a president take a position of interest in the feelings of the common man for a long long time. There has been talk....a lot of talk.

Would you like the current system to be left alone as it has been? Are you too afraid to change?
