Romney Takes Ownership of Brown Victory
ABC The Note ^ | February 2, 2010 | Rick Klien

Posted on 02/02/2010 11:40:49 AM PST by yongin

ABC News’ Rick Klein reports: For those reading 2012 implications out of Sen.-elect Scott Brown’s victory in Massachusetts, Mitt Romney’s monthly PAC newsletter provides some insights.

Brown, R-Mass., is featured in two pictures in the newsletter, and Romney takes full ownership of his victory:

“As supporters of the PAC, you deserve a thank you,” the newsletter from Romney’s Free Strong America PAC reads. “Your support made it possible for Governor Romney to get behind Senator Brown from the very beginning, when polls showed him a 30-point underdog and everyone assumed the outcome was pre-ordained in favor of the Democrats.”

“Governor Romney asked his entire political team to help the then-unknown Brown, and he raised early money for him at a time when very few people would give him a second look.”

Indeed, several key figures in Brown’s victory -- notably Eric Fehrnstrom, Beth Myers, and Peter Flaherty -- were and continue to be Romney people.

Brown’s campaign manager, Beth Lindstrom, was a member of Romney’s Cabinet; his press secretary, Felix Browne, was a deputy press secretary under Gov. Romney; Brown finance director Priscilla Ruzzo held that same post in Romney’s 1994 Senate race; and Will Ritter was a key advance staffer for Romney before he worked for Brown’s campaign.

What is an “LDS” state? A state where the dominant religion is LDS? A state where there are more LDS than any other religion? A state that Romney won?

It’s not like Romney really won anything, so it’s more of a question of interest, not related to your general claim. I just don’t know what an “LDS” state means. I’ve never really heard a state called “Catholic” or “Baptist”, but maybe ever religion owns some states.

No, being a Romneybot makes you a Romneybot, and your posting history proves that out no matter what weak argument you try and make otherwise.

Indeed deceit and “slight of hand” is one of the hallmarks of a Romneybot. The old “I am not really a Romney fan" or "he is not on my list” after posting support of Mitt, other Romneybots or against conservatives and being called on it is one of the oldest ones in the book.

Would it be fairer to use both Boston newspapers?

They all recognize Mitt for what he is - worthless, except to help the DNC.

“The Massachusetts Republican Party died last Tuesday.
The cause of death: failed leadership.
The party is survived by a few leftover legislators
and a handful of county officials and grassroots activists
who have been ignored for years.
Services will be public and a mass exodus of taxpayers will follow.
In lieu of flowers, send messages to Republican voters
warning them about a certain presidential candidate named Romney.”

- Boston Herald, 11/12/2006

"In 2006, while Romney was chairman of the National Republican
Governors Association - a group dedicated to electing more
Republican governors - his own hand-picked Republican successor
as governor lost badly to the Democrat, despite the fact that Republicans
have held the governorship in Massachusetts since 1990. Romney largely
ignored the Massachusetts elections and spent most of the time
during the campaign out of state building his presidential campaign.
He came back and publicly campaigned for the Republican candidate
the day before the general election!
“Locally, this is a rebuke to Mitt Romney and checking out within six months
after being elected and having accomplished almost nothing,”
[Jim] Rappaport [former chairman of the state Republican Party]."
- Boston Globe, 11/8/2006

I don't think I would hitch my wagon to Brown. He is still unknown and he could turn out to be a first class F-up. No one can even pin him down on which direction he would pursue health care.

I see.

So the bottom line is that the term is entirely arbitrary, and you will apply it as you choose, as is the term RINO on FR.

Got it.

Has ROMNEY been a man to take Ownership for RomneyCARE??

Uh, yes? Unfortunately? Are you seriously trying to argue that Romney ran away from his health care program that he liked so much he put in his portrait?

You should make up your mind. Doesn't Romney embrace Romneycare? Answer: Yes, which is why I have significantly soured on him. I wish he had rejected the final bill.

Whether or not Mitt Romney was "defying his church's teachings" is none of your business, nor anyone else's except Mitt and the Church.

Until Mitt ran for office, that would be correct. However, once he runs for office, damn right it is my business. I don't think much of a guy who would sell out his church's own sound pro-life teachings for political gain. That character counts thingy.

So on one hand, the Mitt boosters like to whine that Mitt critics are Mormon haters, but then you turn around and say Mitt's contradictions to Mormon pro-life dogma are none of the critic's business? Pretty pathetic.

If you aren't in a position of leadership responsible for Mitt Romney within the LDS Church, then the whole subject is outside of both your understanding and your concern.

So Chris, are you saying, for example, that people who are not Catholic but base their decisions on whether to vote for say, Pelosi or Kerry on the fact that they are willing to toss the beliefs aside for expediency, should not do so, that they don't understand or it is not their concern?

Wow...

The church would only take a position if he, himself, has caused someone to have an abortion, or if he, as a church leader, was promoting abortion, which he never did.

I could have written this response for you.

So ... in other words you are saying that it IS possible that Mitt (or henchlings) was in fact behind all of it and you have no idea whether he was or wasn't (contrary to your post at #51).

No, Chris, wrong again.

The term Romneybot is quite specific, as is made obvious by the posting antics of those who have earned the title.

>he has is smarts>

That is an opinion. Mitt is more of a gadfly.
He could learn from Sarah Palin as to the several articles she writes each week which have been included as OP Eds in the Washington Post to the Wall Street Journal.
Sarah attacking Obama , his policies, and staff.
Her comments on the economy, Afghn, etc.

Mitt needs less political operatives or more knowledge on the Military. One area Mitt has ran from.

Mitt sat out part of the Vietnam war in Paris and his 5 sons have never served in the military.

Sarah Palin’s son just returned from a year serving in Iraq.

Sure his position on abortion is fair game. That wasn't my point.

But putting yourself in the position of judging between him and his church is just absurd.

So on one hand, the Mitt boosters like to whine that Mitt critics are Mormon haters, but then you turn around and say Mitt's contradictions to Mormon pro-life dogma are none of the critic's business? Pretty pathetic.

I haven't said anything about Mormon-haters, nor have I claimed that you are one. Why do you bring it up?

Are you trying to paint me with the "sins" of every Mitt defender who has ever posted?

Really? Because you've declared that nothing I can do will ever change my status, so it doesn't seem to have any meaning beyond: "I say you're a Romneybot!"

Care to share the "quite specific" meaning? It should be a simple thing to do, since it's "obvious", right?
