Criminal charges are possible. What are they going to charge him with? Terminal stupidity?
Just make him pay his own medical bills. Between that and the pain of the burns he just might learn his lesson, although that is doubtful. There isn't much hope for anyone who tries a stupid college age stunt after drinking that much, like a stupid college age student, at 62.
