The history of governments’ attitudes towards the communications liberties of their people suggests this is more about censorship than security.

"Craig Mundie, chief research and strategy officer for Microsoft, said...Mundie and other experts have said there is a growing need to police the internet...He also called fo a 'driver’s license' for internet users."

Bill Gates was expressing his desires to tax Internet use in various ways--also an entry point to licensing users. The most prominent of wealthy people lean way to the left and against freedom on most issues. They want to rule the world and every individual in it. Various kinds of monarchy are still forms of centralized government and are akin to communism.

>>The head of online security company McAfee told another Davos debate Friday that China, the United States, Russia, Israel and France are among 20 countries locked in a cyberspace arms race and gearing up for possible Internet hostilities.

So? This is inevitable and we dont need another worthless paper/resolution from the Useless Nations that wont do squat.

"Andre Kudelski, chairman of Kudelski Group, said that a new internet might have to be created forcing people to have two computers that cannot connect and pass on viruses. 'One internet for secure operations and one internet for freedom.'"

That could be done, BTW. There are other protocols.

Ah well there is a need to prevent the next ‘hacker’ from leaking things like the UN’s so called climate change.

China probably wants to be blocked to help keep their people in line. So they are probably just going to keep attacking in one way or another no matter what you do.

On the other hand - this “declaration of war” talk from the UN is surprising. As if those fools are willing to recognize *anything* as a declaration of war. All of a sudden they talk about this as such. Makes me think they are finding a new way to gain control over people (eyebrow firmly locked in suspicious arch).

“The world needs a treaty to prevent cyber attacks becoming an all-out war, the head of the main UN communications and technology agency warned Saturday.”
These asshats are always calling for treaties, agreements, etc which are almost always ignored and violations are never enforced.

I often wonder if the world would be better off without Microsoft.
