A Joe Schwarz independent gubernatorial run could hurt Republicans
MLive ^ | 1-30-09 | Susan Demas

Posted on 01/31/2010 3:32:31 PM PST by Darren McCarty

Less than four years ago, U.S. Rep. Joe Schwarz was huddled in his war room at Schuler's pub in Marshall awaiting the results of his GOP primary election against Tim Walberg.
......

Schwarz went on to lose that 2006 race and returned to practicing medicine in Battle Creek. But after spending three decades in public service, he never gave up the ghost and served on a host of blue ribbon panels, including the Pentagon-appointed commission investigating the conditions at Walter Reed.

Now he's flirting with running for governor again after an unsuccessful campaign in 2002. This time, he would run as an independent, as he's disgusted by the partisanship and paralysis in Lansing. Schwarz said he will decide by March.
....
On Off the Record this week, I asked Weiser, who's now Michigan GOP chair, about a Schwarz candidacy and he was unconcerned. He also maintained that it would hurt Republicans and Democrats equally.

That seems hard to believe, given Schwarz's status as a former Republican leader. And obviously some conservatives are so incensed and threatened by him that they'll scribble diatribes against him, declaring that Democrats are a better alternative to the good doctor.

There's also this poll from the Rossman Group/Denno Noor in November, showing that a whopping 54 percent of voters said they'd be willing to vote for a viable independent.....

The voters may like an independent, but we don't like Joe Schwarz. Give it up. He lost, twice. He just endorsed that idiot Marky Mark Schauer in 2008. Susan Demas has had a thing for the former congresscritter Schwarz for a long time, and has had it out for Walberg ever since he defeated him. I like the sound of that. Former congresscritter. Susan, you can thank me for voting him out.

Here in Northfield Township right outside of Ann Arbor, part of the 7th district, I remember Schwarz very well. He was awful, arrogant, elitist, and thought he knew what was best for us. If you did not agree with him, you were an idiot in his eyes. To be blunt, he's a jackass. He was good to UM, but not all of us here are UM. The rest of us were just rednecks to him. That is why I always voted for his opponent. Tim Walberg did a good job for me. He's a good man, and will have my vote this August.

Former congresscritter Schwarz now wants to run for governor again. He didn't get the message in 2002. He didn't get the message in 2006. The biggest reason I think is that he just has a tendency to piss people off.

I'm going to forward this article to a friend of mine who is a prominent blogger and well connected to the Republicans. He'll love this. Schwarz crossed him way back in 2000 and 2002 over 2nd Amendment issues. He usually doesn't lose his cool, but Schwarz just pisses him off, which Schwarz eventually does, to all of us.

I wouldn’t be surprised if the scumbag weren’t planning to run for no other reason than screwing over republicans. After losing the primary to Walberg he announced a write in campaign days before the general election in 06.

Maybe he can count on a McCain endorsement again.

I'll bet that the RATS use secret deals with various scumbags and whackjobs to run as "third party' candidates in various races. Here in Massachusetts we have a breathtakingly unpopular RAT governor (a good buddy of Hussein,in fact) who's up this fall.

Miraculously, another RAT office holder announced he was leaving the RAT Party to run as an "independent',thus basically insuring that Coupe Deval is reelected with 37% of the vote.

The “writer” (Susan Demas) gets her panties all wadded up over anything that will hurt the republicans. I believe she even encouraged democrats to vote for Schwarz in the 06 primary out of her seething hatred of Tim Walberg.

Doubtful. Schwarz is a liberal DIABLO. If I were the Democrats, I wouldn’t want him running, because he’ll take liberal votes from them.

Let him run all he wants, he won’t go anywhere. He has little basis for any sort of fundraising like the rats, or the GOP candidates who are raising serious cash.

And good riddance to that sleazebag Schauer too, his days are number to the tune of Nov. 4.

Moleface out there this morning saying Pokulus has *created* 48,000 jobs in MI, this tramp is going to be the easy to run against.

I’ve pretty much made up my mind on who I’m going to support in the primary and that’s the one who slaps Granholm around the most. Since she ran against Bush in 2006 instead of DeVos and got away with it, the GOP candidate needs to run against her & Obama.

Heard a blistering radio ad today from a third party ‘eagle something’ going after Hoekstra for supporting TARP, banning guns in DC, stuff like that as “beltway” which shows there’s a lot of DC anger out there.

Going to be an interesting race to say the least - and look for the GOP to take back the state house for a trifecta.

The good thing is that Schwarz has managed to make everyone mad at him.

Um, no. In fact Cahill is probably to the right of the RINO losers running. I'd vote for him if I lived in MA. The RINOs should just drop out.

Yup, and Cahill has my endorsement. A Slick Willardbot and his homosexual liberal running mate on the GOP side is a slap in the face to Conservatives.

I would bet on Cahill winning in Massachusetts. I'm surprised Deval doesn't have primary opposition.

As for Joe Schwarz, his very brief time in the spotlight after winning a plurality in one Congressional primary ended years ago.

The further away from the mushy middle Republicans move (e.g. RIGHT), the less of a threat independents and other third party candidates will become.

WORD!

Really! You obviously don't get to Massachusetts much,do you.OK...here's a little quiz for you regarding our current Governor:

Without looking it up,tell me how Patrick got the nickname "Coupe Deval"?

Google search her name + Tim Walberg. That woman needs help. She's been obsessed with destroying Walberg for years and I don't think she even lives in the 7th district.

I think she's in the Lansing area, so possible. Eaton County's in the 7th.

I wonder if Tim turned her down for a date or something. That hatred is personal.
