Adler apparently did nothing. Maybe there was nothing he could do from the visiting room. Cell phones weren't so popular back then, even if they were, they probably would not have been allowed in there. Adler probably had no way of getting help. The guard was probably out to lunch thinking all is safe since a lawyer can be a trusted visitor. Guard probably returned in a hour and that's when Mr Pepe received help.
I don't know how things work when visiting a federal prison. I'm just guessing.
