President Obama rumbles with House GOP
Politico ^ | January 29, 2010 | PATRICK O'CONNOR & TIM GRIEVE

BALTIMORE — President Barack Obama on Friday accused Republicans of portraying health care reform as a "Bolshevik plot" and telling their constituents that he’s "doing all kinds of crazy stuff that's going to destroy America."

Speaking to House Republicans at their annual policy retreat here, Obama said that over-the-top GOP attacks on him and his agenda have made it virtually impossible for Republicans to address the nation’s problems in a bipartisan way.

“What happens is that you guys don’t have a lot of room to negotiate with me,” Obama said, silencing the smattering of Republicans who had applauded when he said “Bolshevik plot.” "The fact of the matter is, many of you, if you voted with the administration on something, are politically vulnerable with your own base, with your own party because what you've been telling your constituents is, ‘This guy's doing all kinds of crazy stuff that's going to destroy America.' ''

Obama’s comments came in the midst of an extraordinary back-and-forth with Republican House members – a scene straight out of the House of Commons that played out live on cable TV.

The authors of this piece are nuts if they think this helped Obambi.

NOT.

Here’s where Obambi is fundamentally wrong:

It’s not the GOP that is telling its constituents that BO is doing all kinds of crazy stuff that we don’t want to destroy the country.

It’s the constituents telling the GOP that BO is doing all kinds of crazy stuff, including Bolshevik plots, to destroy the country.

The GOP is listening. BO is not.

This political ignoramus actually believes that the GOP is boxing itself in by *creating* a false dichotomy between what BO is doing and what they say he is doing. The reality is quite the opposite.

No worries we’re on the same side. Obama was awful, he was too defensive, too impatient, he tried his best to dodge every question and talk about fluff, and every poll I’ve seen clearly shows the American people are sick of him and his handlers blaming Bush for all of our/his woes. In short, he looked like an irritated, spoiled, arrogant, selfish idiot.

Being respectful is fine if someone DESERVES respect. Hussein does NOT and republicans should have handed him his a$$. They were FAR too polite/meek. Hussein is an America hating liar, thug and fascist and at least ONE republican should have TOLD him so.

“And now the question is, why wouldn’t Obama allow C-Span to show him talking to the Democrats?”

I’m sure it’s because he and his staff knew they were in for a rough time with House liberals for not going far enough on health care reform, and from Blue Dogs who voted for Pelosi’s/Obama’s health care bill (which contains a strong public option and massive increases in income taxes) and now have to face angry voters at home. I wish I could have seen it, I’m sure it was ugly.

You should have seen Luke Russert on msnbc, he was absolutely giddy, he thought Obama handed it to the Repubs big time. I thought Luke’s “analysis” was a joke, it was like he was being fed talking points directly from Axelrod, Rahm and Gibbs.

Nonsense. Sadly in Politics image is everything.

This was the 1st smart move by the GOP I have seen in awhile.

The GOP maneuvered him out from behind his media propaganda machine shield and hammered him live on national TV. He acted, and looked, like a pompous, arrogant ass. The GOP played it just right, let him be the aggressor, start in with the usual 0 BS, and then hammered him.

If Dear Reader were not here he would be someplace else. They provided him with nothing he would not all ready have. Only this time he has to take challengers instead of just being allowed to spew his propaganda unquestioned to his adoring fans.

The GOP also scored major PR points by asking him here. When the Democrat machine starts with their lying propaganda this fall, the GOP candidates can say "hey we had to asked Obama to come meet with us, the Dems are the ones holding the political door closed on everyone else in the county".

The GOP House members were taking him on and challenging his propaganda. It is past time they started doing this. The whole country is crying out for leadership against the Dems. If the GOP will not do it, they will find people who will.

Never understood why Conservatives think running away instead of taking these people on is a good idea. The GOP did that all during the Bush years. Ran and hid instead of taking on the Democrats Political/Media machine. How did that work for us? All the GOP does do when they run away from the battlefield of ideas is concede the PR war to the other side.

Conservatives have to learn this, we will win nothing until we learn to fight, and beat, these people's PR machine.

Total ignorance. Your statements on this issue could not be more divorced from the facts. Which Democrat party propaganda outlet are you getting your opinions from?

Try actually watching it instead of letting them tell you want to think.

All I’m saying is I want to know what’s being considered. Call me old-fashioned, but if it’s my life, I get a say. God knows they can all talk. They can talk your ear off about generalities. It’s like an unending episode of Seinfeld — a show about nothing. God forbid they should talk specifics in a cogent manner. We talk, talk, talk, talk, talk and nothing gets done.

When liberals talk, their actions are not far behind. The system of checks and balances is irritation to them. To hell with the Constitution, they will go full steam ahead until they get whatever it is that they want, whether you like it or not...........

Just one slight word change and things are different...
...accused Republicans of portraying health care reform as a "progressive plot"...

Just a tic!
Bolsheviks were progressives.
Never mind.

It would require the intelligence of the dimmest demoncrat to lead anyone to believe any of that out-of-context pure drivel..

Well Said.

In 1918 the Mensheviks in Russia tried to play Mr. Nice Guy and compromise with the Bolsheviks who used their weakness against them to rise to power and destroyed them. Had they fought them instead the future of Russia would likely have been quite different.

The GOP needs to take a lesson --

Screaming hysteric ignorant insults in response is the behavior of a petulant child, not an adult mind. Try again. Only this time actually address the points made to you not just screaming in hysterical.

I was just wondering what had happened to Luke Russert and whether he was going to try to get into da business.

Didn’t see him, but am not the least surprised by your report. Yuck.

I think it was the TEApublicans who got everything they wanted out of that little meeting. I like how Boehner rounded up the reporting on BO’s whine here:
