Mysterious changes in the stratosphere may have offset greenhouse effect.

Earth’s horizon against the blackness of spaceA loss of water vapour from the Earth's stratosphere may have been behind the last decade being cooler than expected.NASA

A puzzling drop in the amount of water vapour high in the Earth's atmosphere is now on the list of possible culprits causing average global temperatures to flatten out over the past decade, despite ever-increasing greenhouse-gas emissions.

Although the decade spanning 2000 to 2009 ranks as the warmest on record, average temperatures largely levelled off following two decades of rapid increases. Researchers have previously eyed everything from the Sun and oceans to random variability in order to explain the pause, which sceptics have claimed shows that climate models are unreliable.

Now a team led by researchers at the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) in Boulder, Colorado, report that a mysterious 10% drop in water vapour in the stratosphere — the atmospheric layer that sits 10-50 kilometres above Earth's surface — since 2000 could have offset the expected warming due to greenhouse gases by roughly 25%. Just as intriguingly, their model suggests that an increase in stratospheric water vapour might have boosted earlier warming by about 30% in the 1980s and 1990s. The team's work is published online by Science today1.

The effect on temperature is dominated by water vapour in the lower part of the stratosphere, which absorbs and radiates heat in much the same way as water molecules and other greenhouse gases do in the lower atmosphere. The drop in water vapour doesn't explain the entire decrease in the rate of warming, but it could contribute to it, says Susan Solomon, first author of the study and a NOAA scientist who co-chaired the...

The climate is natural. If the climate is complexed, the Tesla are passed by here! Scalar weapons testing does not begin with yesterday. If it is a disaster, a hurricane, an earthquake, it is the fault scalar weapons. They can all cause. They all repair.

This is the new tactical warfare being implemented throughout the “global warming” community. Report on new things, but operate off of the basis that major warming has occurred, and most of it just recently: proven, water tight, impenetrable, beyond a doubt, overwhelming scientific evidence blah blah blah.

CO2 is busted as a cause of heating so now they’re going for a loss of water vapor as the cause for cooling? Wrong, water vapor, like CO2, is a trailing indicator of temperature change. ISS (It’s the Sun Stupid).

Bingo we have a winner!
The Sun shines on earth (71% of the surface is water) and heats it up locally causing evaporation. The water vapor (a gas) rises and heats the air which then also rises. When heating is high the level of water in the upper atmosphere is high.

When the Sun cools off a bit, there is less surface heating therefore less evaporation therefore lower upper atmosphere water (as a gas).

Who’d have thought?

One of those buffer mechanisms (probably the most important) is cloud. Cloud reflects the sun’s visible radiation and blocks it from heating the earth beneath it during the day. It also acts as a ‘blanket’ at night, much more effective when present than CO2.

Of course they are getting ‘paid off’. Their salary and travel budgets are provided through NOAA by the politicians in Washington, courtesy of you the taxpayer.

He wasn’t smart, he was flipping insanely brilliant, off the freaking scale of genius. (Divinely so, is my guess)

Tesla was too wrapped up in himself. If he had been a little more willing to communicate and share with other investigators (you know, that "peer review" thing), more of his discoveries might have been preserved, discoveries that are now lost.

Also, he might have avoided going down the dead ends that he wasted his later years on. So conscious of his own superiority, he couldn't take input from "lesser" men.

I believe you make an excellent point there. That’s why dew forms overnight and condensation appears on a glass of cold liquid. It’s not the dew that causes the temperature to drop, nor the condensate that makes the glass cold.

Not only are they hedging their bets - they're setting up the next big lie freak out. Water - there's not going to be ANY WATER... We have to shut down the United States and all first world countries - WE'RE ALL GOING TO DIE OF THIRST. God, I hate liberals.

You mean the earth is in a natural equilibrium? What a novel concept!

It’s amazing to think that Krakatoa exploded in 535 AD — with
the explosive force of 2 Billion Hiroshima size bombs
bringing seven years of crop failures and plunging the world
into the Dark Ages — and somehow the earth BOUNCED BACK on
its own.

Notice how they scam the facts?

They say that there is an increase in “green house gases” but a decrease in global temperatures over the last decade.

when they know good and well that the “increase” in gases is because they just recently declared CO2 as a “Green house gas”, which would increase it by proxy and nothing more.

These people are so dishonest and corrupt! It merely reflects the Marxist mantra that it becomes a righteous cause to lie when the “End result justifies the means of the lie”.

Well then, look for them to also find a need to “regulate” water vapor output and a tax on it. Most all industry gives of massive quantities of it, power production, etc. Clean or not!

You're right. Remember how liberals used to push "nuclear winter"? A few nukes go off and the planet goes dark and all life dies? Hmmmm, guess they were wrong on that one too.

One of the things that I find so funny about this is that they keep talking through the article as if water vapor is not a "greenhouse gas". I can't wait for the drumbeats to eliminate dihydrogen monoxide. --It's for the children!

Yet, these PhD’s want to spend billions of our dollars to try to control something that they don’t understand.

They're not talking billions but trillions or quadrillions.

Just a matter of decimal points.

But can we afford to wait? Of course.

I don't believe anything the warmer climatologists come up with these days. There's just too much money involved and too many characters trying to make their fortunes on this theory.

The science ain't settled.
