Less than two weeks ago, the shape of the Republican U.S. Senate primary in California changed dramatically when former Rep. and liberal GOPer Tom Campbell announced he would become the third major Republican in the race.
In abandoning his bid for the GOP nomination for governor, the 57-year-old Campbell joins State Assemblyman Chuck DeVore and former Hewlett-Packard CEO Carly Fiorina in the battle for nomination to oppose Democratic Sen. Barbara Boxer this November.
At first glance, the seasoned observer of Golden State Republican politics is tempted to shrug and say Who cares?

Trojan horse. NO NO NO!

The good thing is Chuck appears to be slowly but surely building. He has time but we will have to do the grunt work. I’m giving to his campaign tomorrow.
Wow. The biggest brown-noser for JOHN MCCAIN has the nerve to call Tom Campbell a LIBERAL. THAT’S TOO RICH.
DeVore is at 6%
Campbell 30%
Issues that Tom Campbell would be a No vote whereas Boxer would be a Yes:
Universal Healthcare
Cap & Trade
More Stimulus
Deceptive Anti-jobs legislation
Reduced military funding
Reduced national security
Illegal Immigration/Amnesty
Water rationing in central CALIFORNIA
I ask you, are these not the most important issues facing the United States today?
Having Tom Campbell as a California Senator would be LIGHT YEARS better than Mamm Boxer. And right now, it looks like a good possibility. GET REAL, FOLKS!
Campbell & Devore pretty much have zero name recognition here in California.
Meg Whitman started campaigning early and will wind up getting the GOP nomination.

Agree. In CA politics it will end being anybody but Boxer.
Candidate trivia time. :-)
Birthplaces of the candidates
Chuck - Seattle, WA
Barbara - Brooklyn, NY
Tom - Chicago, IL
Carly - Austin, TX
Tom Campbell is a liberal. Socially and fiscally. John McCain has a record of voting against big government even when everyone else in his party was voting march step with Bush such as with the medicare drug benefit. I judge liberal versus conservative based on voting record alone. John McCain has been very wrong on some issues but at least he has come around on illegal immigration, he is a social conservative both pro life and opposes special rights for sexual activists. I wonder sometimes whether some of the people that frequent FR are not simply moles trying to sow discord while pushing agendas contrary to the conservative cause. Tom may not be the worst we could get but he is nearly the worst and since we have a good solid conservative candidate who is balanced and shares our values Campbell should stay out we don’t need ex butt kissers of Grey Davis and Arnie Climatnator. Mr. Campbell also is a big supporter of the CA version of CAP and Trade AB 32. Don’t tell me how great he is.

Folks who are series about turning this state and country around need to ignore some of the crappy polls out there.
The true spirit of Hope has popped up the last few special elections and there is no reason the same can’t happen here.
That’s if folks take what is happening seriesly or not. ;-)
Rinos advance a flawed agenda.
Yeah, if I were a mole, I’d be intent on derailing JD Hayworth against McShamnesty and the one Republican who has the best shot at de-throning “Mamm” Boxer. That’s what YOU’re doing.
I like Campbell personally but am voting for DeVore all the way.
Whitman is running for Governor. Not the Senate.
The wealthy liberal-GOP woman you probably have in mind is Carly Fiorina -
The Democrats have ONE plan to avert the political massacre they see coming this November. They’ve been very up-front about it: DIVIDE AND CONQUER.
One troll FR poster has started at least a half dozen threads today that fulfills that directive.
Don’t fall for it.
Depends on your definition of Liberal. Tom’s mentor in his PhD program was Milton Friedman. Tom is nearly identical.
