RESPONSE to Obama's State of the Union Address by PAUL SCHIFFER, Ohio Congressional Candidate

CANTON, OHIO (January 27, 2010) –– “President Obama revealed once again in his State of the Union address his failure to comprehend the United States of America and our economy,” according to Paul Schiffer, Congressional Candidate for Ohio’s 16th Congressional District. “First, Obama criticized many actions in Washington that then-Senator Obama personally voted for. Remember: Democrats took control of Congress in January 2007, causing many of our problems.” Paul Schiffer explained: “Almost every thing Obama said and proposed was deeply contaminated by a faulty philosophy of a ‘command and control’ government dictating and ruling over the private sector economy. Obama still thinks that nothing happens unless the Government does it. Obama passionately argued that the United States should copy the communist Chinese by having the government design, develop, and direct the private economy. Obama complained that ‘America’ – meaning the government bureaucracy – has not done as much as the Chinese to reshape the economy by government power. Obama asked how long we should have to wait to build up our economy, clearly meaning that Obama thinks only the United States Government can develop and improve the private economy.” “Obama just doesn’t get it,” Schiffer charged. “Government cannot create or develop jobs or grow the economy. There is no magic lever in the Oval Office to control the economy. Most of Obama’s proposals are doomed to failure.” Schiffer gave Obama credit, escaping a grade of “F” for his proposals to give tax credits to small business, to enforce international trade agreements more vigorously against those nations that cheat the United States, and to limit the loss of jobs moving overseas. Paul Schiffer had already proposed legislation on these topics months ago. Obama’s lowest moment, according to Schiffer, was when Obama lied to the American people about health care reform, attempting to suggest that Obama is willing to listen to Republican alternatives for improving health care insurance and costs. “Obama has repeatedly ignored for more than a year, since before his inauguration, the hundreds of Republican proposals that would improve the lives and health care of Americans. Obama is clearly not interested in hearing any ideas but his own, and his attempt to portray himself as open-minded was dishonest and inappropriate.”
