Obama Defiant (And Out of Touch)
FrontPage Magazine ^ | Jacob Laksin

Posted on 01/28/2010 4:48:20 AM PST by Michael van der Galien

In a speech that signaled his intention to “start anew,” perhaps the most notable feature of President Obama’s first-ever State of the Union address was how remarkably stale it sounded.

Against the backdrop of plummeting poll ratings and the election of a Republican Senator in Democrat-friendly Massachusetts – an unmistakable message about the broad unpopularity of the policies supported by the administration and its allies in the Democratic Congress – President Obama last night hewed to a partisan playbook that can only be described as business as usual. From economically ruinous “cap-and-trade” legislation, to the widely disliked health care “reform” package, to specious left-wing nostrums like “equal pay for equal work,” the president pledged to work for a sharply ideological agenda that would have pleased the Democratic base even as it would have disappointed those who took seriously his repeated appeals to bipartisanship.

Obama began with the confession that he has “never been more hopeful about America’s future than I am tonight.” America has a more skeptical view. The nonpartisan Congressional Budget Office reported this week that the current 10 percent unemployment rate is no closer to receding in the near term. Add to that a runaway national debt expected to triple to $22 trillion over the next decade, much of it caused by government spending, and it’s not surprising that Americans are dissatisfied with the administration’s stewardship of the economy.

the most notable event was SC Justice Alito mouthing ‘not true’ in response to Zero’s accusation that their recent ruling regarding campaign finance reform would allow ‘foreign corporations’ to run political ads

is there anyone left Zero hasn’t attacked directly?

Wow! Does anyone have a video of that?

I would love to see that.

Let alone that obama was wrong again!

the president engaged in demogoguery of the worst kind, when he claimed that last week’s Supreme Court decision in Citizens United v. FEC, “open[ed] the floodgates for special interests — including foreign corporations — to spend without limit in our elections. Well I don’t think American elections should be bankrolled by America’s most powerful interests, or worse, by foreign entities.”

The president’s statement is false.

The Court held that 2 U.S.C. Section 441a, which prohibits all corporate political spending, is unconstitutional. Foreign nationals, specifically defined to include foreign corporations, are prohibiting from making “a contribution or donation of money or ather thing of value, or to make an express or implied promise to make a contribution or donation, in connection with a Federal, State or local election” under 2 U.S.C. Section 441e, which was not at issue in the case. Foreign corporations are also prohibited, under 2 U.S.C. 441e, from making any contribution or donation to any committee of any political party, and they prohibited from making any “expenditure, independent expenditure, or disbursement for an electioneering communication... .”

This is either blithering ignorance of the law, or demogoguery of the worst kind.

And this——
The law that Congress enacted in the populist days of the early 20th century prohibited direct corporate contributions to political campaigns. That law was not at issue in the Citizens United case, and is still on the books. Rather, the court struck down a more complicated statute that barred corporations and unions from spending money directly from their treasuries — as opposed to their political action committees — on television advertising to urge a vote for or against a federal candidate in the period immediately before the election.

I would like to hear Obozo summarize what he said last hight. (Off teleprompter of course.) I’d give him full credit if he knew half of what he read.

There has to be some blowback coming when an arrogant prince talks down to “fatcat” bankers, dumass Supreme Court Justices, extremist teabaggers, obstructionist Republican Congressmen, etc. I mean, will there be no response or riposte?

“an arrogant prince “

You used exactly the word I first thought of... “arrogant”
The “I want a jobs bill on my desk” smacks of arrogance!
btw- didn’t we already have one of those in one of the stimuli?

Obama is sowing the seeds of his own destruction. He’s a blithering idiot, full of foolish, arrogant talk, but someone will take him down a few notches. The Supreme Court is composed of men, after all, and THEY WILL REMEMBER.

Obama simply revealed himself for what he is, a union organizer, selfish, brutish, filled with hate for the other side, and arrogant.

The country sent a message in the VA, NJ, and MA elections. They then awaited a response from those they sent the message to. Now they have the response, which as predicted, is delusional and dishonest. Basically, bammy has decided to hear only that which pleases him. Between the hard left and his racial base I believe he has a solid 20% of the electorate that will support come hell or high water. It looks as if he is satisfied that this will see him through. I await the Clinton moves at this point. The Dem party is captive to non-responsive and delusional leadership. I can not believe that they will allow this punk to paint their wagon. Sooner or later a Dem challenger will have to emerge from the abyss. How they navigate the racist boundaries that define the party will be the interesting thing to watch. Essentially, bammy is telling the Dems if you challenge me I will go Jerimiah on you. Schism time?

I'd like to hear from a few seniors on what they think about not getting COLA raises for 4 years. And if you believe there are cut and gut in obamadeathcare to Medicare and SS then I've a piece of ocean front property in AZ to sell you.

Today is 12/28 just a few days ago the commie rag Mother Jones

http://motherjones.com/mojo/2010/01/obama-puts-social-security-chopping-block

was reporting that he was cut and gutting SS and Medicare. Last night he froze it and the retired Military's COLAs for the next 3 years, we didn't get one this year either. Inflation is sending the cost of food up, yet the old folks are getting no COLAS, but congress gets their $4G+ automatically. FREEZE congress's pay and perks.

The new dem mantra: Woof, woof let granny eat dog food...spoof on let them eat cake.
