Former Rep. J.D. Hayworths all-but-official primary challenge to Sen. John McCain (R-Ariz.) has already started to reignite long-simmering tensions within the states Republican faithful.
Those divisions combined with both mens reputation for bare-knuckle politics, a volatile electorate and a state in financial crisis equal a recipe for one of the countrys fiercest political contests of 2010.

Hayworths advisers say they are prepared to go head to head with McCain on spending issues.
Hayworth spokesman Jason Rose said there is hypocrisy in McCain touting a conservative record on spending when he supported bailing out the banking and mortgage industries in 2008.
However, Rose said the Hayworth campaign expects illegal immigration to continue to be a hot-button issue in the campaign, in addition to the economy and spending.

The GOP establishment and its donor base, however, are sticking with McCain, said GOP lobbyist and donor Kevin DeMenna, who was co-chairman of Mitt Romneys 2008 presidential finance team in the state.
The donors nationally and certainly in Arizona are not going anywhere, said DeMenna, who added that Hayworth would likely have to rely on grass roots and tea party supporters. His national profile on illegal immigration, however, could help, and Rose said Hayworth expects to have the funds that he needs to run a competitive race.

Hey, I know Sarah Palin just said Romney was a great guy, but she’s no Romneybot.
This sucks. I thiought at least Mitt hated this evil pro-amnesty back stabber Juan McStain. Screw you Mitt.
I love Sarah big time, and I understand her decision here. But I hope JD beats the living crap out of McCain in the primaries.
Hayworth has his work cut out for him.
The two-faced liar Romney is supplying the muscle, NE liberal Scott Brown making robocalls and former running mate, Sarah Palin, making a big public endorsement for McCain.
GO JD!
The establishment doesn’t favor J.D. SHOCK!
This is a flaw because...?
Thank you J.D.! I really don’t know how the McCain camp can act all holy after they leapt back to D.C. last year when conservatives and the entire country were yelling Stop! only to vote to spend more of our money. It was that moment when his campaign officially tanked and never recovered. I should be impress by protesting a few earmarks after he has approved billions in unneccesary spending elsewhere?
I hope JD wins too. People need to understand and realize going into this race that McCain has more skin in the game with the national GOP vs JD. That is what our two party system has given us and conservatives need to take back the party one race at a time because the party will protect the establishment candidates.
Nominating conservatives is the only way we can affect change on the GOP. I blame “we the people” for moderate or progressive republicans. We took grassroots activism out of the equation and let the establishment be run by those who honor the party over principles. We stayed home in the primaries and grumble that GOP politicians become beltway insiders focusing on beltway politics instead of listening to us. We let the corporate republicans take over the system and their money decides the winner absent grassroots activism.
It’s no surprise that Sarah or Mitt support McCain. To do otherwise would almost guarantee no support from the national GOP (or dollars). Conservatives have to change that one race at a time.
JD Hayworth is a charasmatic guy. He's going to fight and we're going to back him. We're through with McCain. We've told him he should go out gracefully, but if he insists on this fight, a fight he will have. Really, I'm bookmarking this thread!!!
McCain again v.10.01.26
Food for thought for the George Soros, Teressa Heinz Kerry, Tides Foundation et al wing of the Republican Party.

Palin, McCain, and Romney... good fricken grief! All we need now is for Graham, to saunter in on his unicorn.
So now he has Romney and Sarah in his corner. I wonder when Huckster will join the club...
Good! I want to be there for the I-told-you-sos as well as for the end of McCain.
I live in AZ and am amazed the anti JD ads sponsored by McCain are carpet bombing the air waves so soon. They are starting to attack JD very, very early. the only conclusion I can draw from this is that McCain is scared of JD and wants to try and avoid a Scott Brown moment.
JD knows media very, very well and boy can he speak. Personally, I think he will crush McCain. This race will also be a national race because a lot of people do not like McCain. He is pro immigration, anti free speech (MCCain Feingold, anti fence, and basically a democrat in sheep’s clothing.
We tried to tell him nicely and respectfully, but if he wants a fight, he's going to get a fight. To me, it's sad. He lost the presidency in a humiliating defeat and he will lose this in a humiliating defeat. This is not going to be easy for him ... THAT I can guarantee you.
Where in Arizona are you? I’m in Mohave and there’s been no ads...I think he realizes Mohave County is not McCain Country!
Just like Scott brown did?
I mean, Brown DID win didn't he?
do you have a link where we can donate to JD?
