Gillibrand Lashes Out at Remarks From Ford
NY Times ^ | January 27, 2010 | RAYMOND HERNANDEZ

Posted on 01/27/2010 6:32:48 PM PST by neverdem

Senator Kirsten E. Gillibrand sharply objected Tuesday to Harold E. Ford Jr.’s characterization of her as “a parakeet” and accused him of engaging in a “fraudulent” campaign for her Senate seat.

Ms. Gillibrand’s remarks came a day after Mr. Ford appeared on an Albany radio show and suggested that she lacked the independence to be a senator.

“Understand that you’re not elected to the United States Senate to be a parakeet or to take instructions from the Democratic leadership,” Mr. Ford said, a jab at Ms. Gillibrand, who was appointed to the Senate last year to fill the seat vacated by Hillary Rodham Clinton.

In response, during an interview on Tuesday, Ms. Gillibrand depicted Mr. Ford, a former representative from Tennessee, as a political scion who had benefited handsomely from his ties to powerful insiders. Although he is positioning himself as an outsider, she said, he inherited his father’s Congressional seat and runs the Democratic Leadership Council, a centrist policy group that is a major player in Washington.

“It is fraudulent for him to claim he is an outsider,” she said. “He literally grew up in Washington, D.C., while his father was a congressman. And then he waltzes into his father’s Congressional seat and now is a vice chairman of Merrill Lynch.”

“On top of that, he runs the most insider Democratic organization, the D.L.C,” she said, continuing, “For him to say he is an outsider and an independent is laughable.”

The tart comments from both sides suggest that a Democratic primary between the two would be quite a rumpus. It is highly unusual for a United States senator to directly attack a rival who is not even officially in the race, let alone with such personal edge.

But Ms. Gillibrand made clear that she thought Mr. Ford had crossed...

Rates to be an interesting contest.

Chuck U Schumer's corrupt sock puppet vs. a corrupt Negro who can't get elected to anything in TN because his family is more corrupt than he.

Wonder which corruptocrat that the corruptocrat 'Rats in NY will get behind?? Haven't a clue...should be a good popcorn-munching campaign.

Does anyone find it interesting that Ford is attempting to replicate the Bobby Kennedy-Hitlery Clinton carpetbag trick?

This Harold Ford is the scion of a slimeball Memphis politico-criminal family; he was the Dims’ first choice to be their black savior, before B. Hussein Obama - until they discovered what an incredible load of baggage he carried with him in the form of his various crooked family members.

So Harry Jr. fled Tennessee to re-invent himself in New York, apparently hoping that New Yorkers would be much more tolerant of a crook...

Thanks neverdem. Great comment, BTW.

Interesting?

How about "ironic?"

Ironic that a black from Tennessee is a reverse-carpetbagger in New York!

Payback's a beach, eh yanks?

My state already had payback on steroids. It came in 1972 from one Coleman A Young, the mayor of Detroit and Alabama carpetbagger.

Yeah, let’s.

But, New York is fond of carpet-bagging personalities who come up and steal the mantle for them. As if they have no soul......or hate their own so much they’ll vest tremendously in those who join them offering outside convictions and ideals.

In “bizaroo” world of worlds, I guess I kinda hope Gillibrand can win this one. It would at least be nice for both of NY’s Senators to NY’ers. For the first time in a decade or so......

Harold Jr wanted to be the first black president. Obama screwed that all up for him. He may have screwed Harold for several election cycles. America will be very leery about electing another black president for some time after Obama is through.

Interesting, yes. The original carpet baggers went south after the civil war. Now we're returning the favor.

Well, if she don't like them apples, let me go Mr. Ford one better:

She's an enabler of child prostitution, being as she knowingly voted to continue funding ACORN after it was revealed that they had counseled people on how to set up a child prostitution ring. She deserves to burn in Hades, and suffer all the torments of every little boy or girl who has to suffer because of her votes.

I'm not sure which side Schmucky Chuckie Schumer would support in this ‘Rat fight.

Any ideas as to whom the GOP candidate might be? This race is winnable for the GOP, given the national tide running against the ‘Rats.

I've read that the parakeet is a Schumer protege.

We can’t get a Republican to get off the pot and declare. I’m no fan of Pataki’s, but he should run for it.

I've read that the parakeet is a Schumer protegee.

Well, actually she was appointed to fill the vacated HRC Senate seat by replacement Gov. David Patterson.

Now that Patterson's approval ratings are tanking, one wouldn't expect Schumer to be particularly supportive of either Patterson or Gillebrand.

Not that I like Kirsten Gillibrand.....

But who told Harold Ford to run? His carpetbagging will get him nowhere. It worked for Hillary but it won’t work for Ford. Maybe if 0bama was running but he isn’t
