ACORN foe James O'Keefe arrested by FBI in plot to bug Landrieu's office

The conservative young filmmaker who tarnished the reputation of a liberal activist group with his undercover videos has been arrested for allegedly trying to bug Democratic Sen. Mary Landrieu's office in New Orleans.

Federal investigators allege that James O'Keefe was among a group of four men who created a ruse to enter Landrieu's downtown office for the supposed purpose of repairing the lawmaker's telephones. O'Keefe and another man, Stan Dai, are accused of aiding the plot, while two others, Joseph Basel and Robert Flanagan, are accused of pretending to be telephone company employees, according to federal court records (PDF) unsealed today.

All four, including O'Keefe, were arrested Monday and charged by federal prosecutors with entering federal property under false pretenses and with the intent of committing a felony. If convicted, Flanagan, Basel, O'Keefe and Dai face up to 10 years in prison and a fine of $250,000.

Hate to say it, but I think O’Keefe fits the old description that goes something like: “he’s got more nerve than sense”.

I don’t know but it is a shame he showed such promise and I know he will just be nailed.

Can you say political prosecution? James O’Keefe is getting a little “payback” from the Justice Dept. minions of the Kenyan Usurper.

“This is a very unusual situation and somewhat unsettling for me and my staff,” said Landrieu in a statement released Tuesday evening. “The individuals responsible have been charged with entering federal property under false pretenses for the purposes of committing a felony. I am as interested as everyone else about their motives and purpose, which I hope will become clear as the investigation moves forward.”

But I thought the FBI wasn’t supposed to go in to the halls of Congress. I thought it was a violation of the separation of powers.

Anyone else remember the lessons we learned from William Jefferson?

Stupid kids. They got stung. FBI Agents were already in Landreau’s office waiting for them.

O’Keefe isnot a conservative if he deliberately and brazenly breaks federal laws.

He’s in big doo-doo now. His ego has outweighed his common sense.

Lemme guess:

Flanaghan, son of connected prosecutor, asks O’Keefe to videotape some great prank on Landreiu.

O’Keefe arrives.

FBI agents suddenly arrive and arrest all four of them.

FBI writes affidavit that O’Keefe AIDED wiretap.

Holder assumes victory.

I’m not buying it. ACORN was an easy target, because they are corrupt and expect no recompense.

I have a feeling that O’Keefe will show up with some really damaging material, soon. The FBI is just trying to scare the hell out of him - and he isn’t scared. He can tie up his trial in the courts for years while people just get more and more pissed and he files for discovery over and over again.

This is the way it’s being reported. However; it may not be that way at all. We all know how incredibly dirty the Lefties can be.

O’Keefe started off doing something extremely brave and very dangerous. He reached and threatened the very heart of the Demonrat power structure. Maybe he got carried away with his initial success, and maybe he was framed. I know one thing: The Left is utterly ruthless and merciless. Poor guy.

Kid got a big head from his successes with ACORN. Too bad. He’s history now. I hope his female sidekick wasn’t involved in this stunt.
