Endorsement of McCain alienates Palin supporters
The Atlanta Journal-Constitution ^ | 2010-01-26 | Jay Bookman

Posted on 01/26/2010 2:17:50 PM PST by rabscuttle385

Sen. John McCain, the man who brought Sarah Palin to national prominence, is being challenged for re-election in the GOP primary by former U.S. Rep. J.D. Hayworth. Palin recently announced that she plans to travel to Arizona to campaign on McCain’s behalf, but posters on her Facebook page are not at all happy with their Sarah:

“Sarah, it was fun, but now you are done.”

“Sarah, your support of McCain shows bad judgment and brings into question the validity of your words. You can forget any political ambition if you support Amnesty – which John McCain does. Conservatives don’t forget.”

“You do know Senator McCain is a PROGRESSIVE? It is very disappointing that you are campaigning for him instead of J.D. Hayworth. McCain needs to go!”

“Sorry to hear that you are supporting McCain. Up to now, I thought you were part of the solution, but you’ve shown yourself to be part of the problem.”

“McCain!? Are you kidding me? Time to pick a side, Sarah– Are you with the people, or against them?”

“I agree with those who advise you not to campaign for Senator McCain. He really doesn’t represent the views of grassroot conservatives. He represents those in the GOP who have too often been willing to compromise on principle, or even worse, have failed to really understand basic conservative principles.”

“McCain used Palin like a cheap tool to keep from getting beat worse than Reagan did to Mondale. His staff mocked her and showed no respect. Now McCain is using her again like a cheap tool and this time she is willingly doing it under the guise of loyalty. As long as McCain is the face of the GOP, conservatives are irrelevant. Palin is playing politics and this goes against what she “supposedly” represents. She helps elect McCain, she’s done.”

“I respect your loyalty to McCain, Sarah, but he really is using you. You need to do what you are obligated to do for him, and then run as far away from him as possible. He’s widely despised in the Conservative movement, and you’ll be hurting yourself badly with your support base if you do more than offer your token support or speak on his behalf.”

“McCain is not a commonsense candidate. If you support him your future as a conservative candidate is over.”

“Another day ~ another appeal to our girl from Wasilla: PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE do not follow through with your plan to campaign for John McCain. In the insightful words of Julia Roberts in Pretty Woman: “Big mistake. Big. Huge.” To do so will destroy your credibility, have your enemies carping: “I told you so,” and leave your fans devastated.”

That’s just a small sampling of some 2,500 comments, and I have to admit to being surprised by the vehemence and near-unanimity of that sentiment. It makes me think that McCain might eventually have real trouble in the Arizona primary.

unseat her as media queen.

You really are an idiot, you think that Sarah Palin is the media queen, the most hated person in America by the media and the left, the one that is more viciously attacked than anyone that we have ever seen?

Throw that in with your "plagiarism" and "failed Governor" and you really are nuts.

That is the problem. She is a cult-figure with a tiny group of people.

Another lie on your part, you really are the troll that you have admitted to being.

Palin is arguably the top Republican possible candidate at this time depending on the poll, she is always in the top three, your list of troll lies is getting out of control and wasting FR energies.

Yep, by the Romney's, the Paul's, the Rudies, the left, the MSM(actually they like her now),SNL (they like her too now),Glenn Beck, O Reilly .... all proof she is ‘the one’. That's all we need right? Oh yes, she is another Reagan too!

"She’s back perry out of loyalty and friendship but Medina (sp?) is the real conservative and could actually win if Palin endorsed her and increased her name recognition."

If so, I have a bigger problem with this move. As much as I disagree with McCain, I understand that Sarah felt a sense of personal loyalty to him for "bringing her to the dance". The same cannot be said in supporting Perry. She needs to make such decisions based on what each candidate stands for, rather than how she feels personally about each candidate. Supporting political figures based on personal feelings for them is what creates an "old boys" network. In the long run. The personality over principle approach can only succeed in replacing one group of insiders with another.

I admire Sarah for many things but this decision to support McCain is stupid. It smacks of Bush and Santorum going to Pennsylvania to save Snarlin’ Arlen from getting his ass handed to him by a conservative.

HOW DID THAT WORK OUT AGAIN?

So Palin has not endorsed and will not stump for that liberal piece of excrement?

I’m not trying to lie to FReepers, my story is out there for all to see.

And your documented trolling in post 213 makes for a sorry tale, Bob (and I noticed you didn't address 213 at all - what a shock). You can hardly pretend you are being principled when you completely change your approach in such a short timeframe.

Once again, be a man and respect Jim's wishes that you leave FR if you are going to be such a two-faced weasel.

to the Paulist:

I’m crashing on a project so won’t be able to be around for a few days, but the more these morons talk, the bigger chance they have to show they are nothing but spamming trolls....I’m predicting a sacrifice when one goes over the line eventually...i give it a week or two.

If McCain wins, he can help Palin with a presidential run.
That's something along the line of saying the fox can help the hen prepare dinner.
And if Palin’s endorsement defuses this primary challenge, McCain will owe Palin big-time.
There are those who think he already does owe her bigtime, for the chicken-livered manner in which he handled his staffers' grotesque assaults upon her, a manner which in my opinion absolved her of any obligation she may have felt to endorse him. Politics may not be beanbag but there are things a gentleman does not do or sanction against even his most cringe-inducing opponent . . . never mind against an ally, or a running mate.

I say again: Palin should have kept quiet about the Arizona senate race entirely. Her silence would have been damning to McCain while doing nothing foul to Hayworth. And it would not have blocked her or her people from offering Hayworth back channel support if she saw fit to offer. That's done all the time in politics.

I disagree with many of Mac’s positions, but I respect the person’s service.

Living here in San Diego where huge numbers of the POWs were based, I saw dozens in person just after they returned from Viet Nam. You don’t understand unless you see this inperson.

As far as service goes, there are some on this thread
who are anti war, believe the PaulBot propaganda that we deserved 9/11 because we are occupiers.

Having gone face to face with PaulBots and Code Pinkos
many times in person, they have the same talking points.

I disagree with his positions too. I am willing to accept that his service may have been honorable though. I have read enough to realize there are some issues pertaining to this period, but I cannot determine if they are sound and valid. The objections sound reasoned. Under normal circumstances, I would sign on to them. This is a very touchy issue. I’m always going to be inclined to side with the POW, but here I just don’t know.

Here’s what confounds me.

1. Why the intervention or behalf of Vietnam?
2. Why the deaf ear to MIA families and veterans?
3. Why the delirious comradery with Vietnamese officials?

My default position would he that MIA family sensitivities would trump. John’s default position was that Vietnamese interests would trump.

Not all that many years had passed and these same Vietnamese officials had been party to POW abuse and a massive purge.

None the less, John advocated for them over MIA families and veterans. sir never be able to forget what that says about McCain.

BTW, I’m using a tablet and it contributes to some confusing mistakes at times. I try to catch them, but I missed a couple.

In addition I’m not a Paulbot or an anti-war individual. Code Pink, A.N.S.W.E.R.,and their fellow travelers are vile.
