Endorsement of McCain alienates Palin supporters
The Atlanta Journal-Constitution ^ | 2010-01-26 | Jay Bookman

Sen. John McCain, the man who brought Sarah Palin to national prominence, is being challenged for re-election in the GOP primary by former U.S. Rep. J.D. Hayworth. Palin recently announced that she plans to travel to Arizona to campaign on McCain’s behalf, but posters on her Facebook page are not at all happy with their Sarah:

“Sarah, it was fun, but now you are done.”

“Sarah, your support of McCain shows bad judgment and brings into question the validity of your words. You can forget any political ambition if you support Amnesty – which John McCain does. Conservatives don’t forget.”

“You do know Senator McCain is a PROGRESSIVE? It is very disappointing that you are campaigning for him instead of J.D. Hayworth. McCain needs to go!”

“Sorry to hear that you are supporting McCain. Up to now, I thought you were part of the solution, but you’ve shown yourself to be part of the problem.”

“McCain!? Are you kidding me? Time to pick a side, Sarah– Are you with the people, or against them?”

“I agree with those who advise you not to campaign for Senator McCain. He really doesn’t represent the views of grassroot conservatives. He represents those in the GOP who have too often been willing to compromise on principle, or even worse, have failed to really understand basic conservative principles.”

“McCain used Palin like a cheap tool to keep from getting beat worse than Reagan did to Mondale. His staff mocked her and showed no respect. Now McCain is using her again like a cheap tool and this time she is willingly doing it under the guise of loyalty. As long as McCain is the face of the GOP, conservatives are irrelevant. Palin is playing politics and this goes against what she “supposedly” represents. She helps elect McCain, she’s done.”

“I respect your loyalty to McCain, Sarah, but he really is using you. You need to do what you are obligated to do for him, and then run as far away from him as possible. He’s widely despised in the Conservative movement, and you’ll be hurting yourself badly with your support base if you do more than offer your token support or speak on his behalf.”

“McCain is not a commonsense candidate. If you support him your future as a conservative candidate is over.”

“Another day ~ another appeal to our girl from Wasilla: PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE do not follow through with your plan to campaign for John McCain. In the insightful words of Julia Roberts in Pretty Woman: “Big mistake. Big. Huge.” To do so will destroy your credibility, have your enemies carping: “I told you so,” and leave your fans devastated.”

That’s just a small sampling of some 2,500 comments, and I have to admit to being surprised by the vehemence and near-unanimity of that sentiment. It makes me think that McCain might eventually have real trouble in the Arizona primary.

You can be a rock ribbed conservative and make a mistake, or you could be a moderate mushball and make a mistake. OR anything in between.

What’s your point?

Your lies won’t change the fact that your girl quit. Nor will it change the fact that she’s carrying McCain’s water against a better man. But, it seems that your lies are all you have.

“Bob, were you once cuckolded by a woman bearing a strong resemblance to Sarah Palin?”

Thank you for giving me the excuse to purchase a new keyboard, as this one is now ruined.

Ahhh, so the comment about being cuckoled by a Palin resembler wasn’t a shot across my bow?

I now know what kind of mick you are, one who can dish it out but can’t take it.

BTW - A word of caution, don’t threaten me.

DeMint was a ground floor supporter of Mitt for the nomination in 2007. He did fund raisers and campaigned for Mitt. And you would support DeMint?

No, I’d rather support Sarah because she only supports McCain. Are you REALLY making this argument

What?

Sarah supports the RINO, McCain. DeMint supports the RINO, Mitt. Yet we have several posters on this thread who are hypocritically changing their support from Palin to DeMint.

That's the argument.

So you agree that a rock ribbed conservative can make an idiotic choice to support a RINO?

You can be a rock ribbed conservative and make a mistake...

I have no further questions.

Oh, she quit.

I’ll be sure to notify everybody of that...lol.

She quit in the same way that Patton quit his engagement before he redirected to Bastogne to kill off the Tigers.

I’m glad to see the Olberman position is also accounted for on FR.

By your “logic” Reagan wasn’t a conservative because he campaigned in 20 states for Ford and chose Bush-41 to be his VP.

Your rebut is not logical. Reagan campaigning for the GOP presidential nominee is nowhere akin to campaigning for a moderate/liberal candidate in a state primary whose main opponent is a conservative.
Reagan himself avoided his party's primaries, then would campaign for the candidate after the election. And Geo. HW Bush was a Veep nominee, beholden to Reagan and Reagan's policies, rather than a candidate for his state's US senate seat.

Palin's armor is tarnished and you people refuse to see it. I'd almost like to see her campaign for Charlie Crist in Fla's primary, if only to see how you all would attempt to justify that.

Palin can redeem herself, I'm sincerely hoping she does. She needs to realize that by keeping her little promise to the unsavory McCain she is breaking a trust, and bond, she tightly held with hundreds of thousands, if not millions, who support her, financially or otherwise.

Your lecturing falls on deaf ears. We are talking about a lady we wish to be President of the United States, not 'Betty the cocktail waitress' down at the bowling alley lounge.

I’m sure Rahm Emmanuel, et al, are rubbing their hands in glee and doing little happy dances at how easy it was to manipulate you people into turning against Palin.

And this is before she actually did anything. You have no idea what she will say or do and yet you are ready to throw her under the bus.

Some people on Free Republic have a bigger bus than Obama.

What are you going to do when one of the people you choose over Sarah turns out to do something you don’t like or have an opinion you don’t share?

That is the most laughable spin on SP's quitting yet, congratulations on your creativity.

Now if you had written, "She quit in the same way that Patton resigned his commission then left the field to cash in on his fame by writing a book", you'd be on to something.

You shouldn’t have had any questions at all. I pointed out to a poster that it looks like DeMint may run. You can oppose him til the cows come home. He’s got my support.

Fat chance, Buckwheat. Trolls or not, they sure in hell state this Conservative's thoughts.

McVain wouldn't make a pimple on a Constitution Defender's ass.

Reagan had to take the Countryclubber Bush Senior as his V.P. as the Conservative wing had to cede that to the countryclub side of the party. I voted for'The Man', of course. McIdiot, being the left/mid/half-lost side of the party HAD to bow to the Conservatives this time for any kind of party unity.

I was very disappointed when George H.W. Bush was tapped for V.P , and the ONLY reason McPain received my vote is because Sarah (my stated choice before she was even mentioned) was on the ticket. To this day, I don't know if I'd vote for McBackstabber if another weak-kneed idiot as a runningmate.

Much of the Tea Party movement are voters like myself. I'm not going to hold my nose and vote anymore. You damned well BETTER have a set of principles and follow them or you can kiss my fanny for a vote.

Sarah said she would support candidates who reflected her political philosophy and campaign for them in primaries. If McVain represents her political philosophy better than J.D., she certainly makes me question my so far rabid support. I now have some thoughts I never thought I'd have with her. I don't like that feeling.

How Conservative am I ?? I'm over here defending Attila's right flank.
