'In 1892, an adolescent diarist wrote: "Resolved not to talk about myself or feelings. To think before speaking. To work seriously. To be self restrained in conversation and actions. Not to let my thoughts wander. To be dignified. Interest myself more in others."'

I would argue the whole notion of ‘success’ has been radically altered from the turn of the 19th century.
Having a family was considered a measure of success, now it is not so. Thanks btw to the 60s. You know, we really appreciate what you did and what you continue to do to this culture.
