Marxists love to control the population by starvation. Cutting off the water supply to the central valley of CA has wiped out much of its production. Food shortages are coming. They are/were entirely caused by the government.

He can't possibly be this stupid.

Never attribute to malice that which can be adequately explained by stupidity, but don't rule out malice. - Heinlein's Razor

One of these certainly applies.

Obama just wants to cut down on obesity by reducing the food supply and at the same time boost foreign markets for food.

Kidding aside, the thinking behind the control of the water is complex and multi-faceted. The left seriously believes in ZPG for the US, so we can support more poor illegals. They seriously want to clear the rural areas of the west of people, except for tribes. They know if they control the food and water, they can control pretty much the whole country.

How many electoral votes does California have? 55 now, probably more by 2012? Doesn't sound like a guy who expects to have to worry about re-election.

If I own a farm and creek runs through it, the water in that portion belongs to me. If you attempt to cut if off (control it) you are headed for a 12 gauge problem.

I wouldn't expect Obama to know this, since he's not an American, nor a westerner, but in American law, water has always had a property right attached to it. In the West, the right is created by putting water to a beneficial use, and remains the ownership of the user, until a beneficial use is no longer made. Then it reverts back to being a resource until the next beneficial use is made of it. That's how it was when I studied water rights and laws in college in the 1980's. AT that time, governments couldn't own any rights to water at all, though that has substantially changed over time.

There has been a steady encroaching of federal and state power over private rights,by assigning to governments, their own water rights, which are then manipulated to supersede all other rights (how surprising), which generally do not have a use all that beneficial ( snail darter vs agriculture, not too many people would say that was more beneficial) until they control everything.

That’s why I check origin on every item of food I buy.. or, at least I try.

Denying water to the valley is cruel and unusual punishment to the residents. It’s downright evil.

It’s not the politicians in Sacramento that are the problem (for once). It is the federal laws that allowed the opening for federal lawsuits. The State Legislature has no power to over-rule or supersede these rulings short of directing the AG (Jerry Brown super-lib) to file a 10th ammd suit. But then again, these are largely liberal politicians who don’t want to see their enviro/union funds dry up. And, sadly, such a suit would likely fail and cost the taxpayers millions of dollars on the way.

This is a federal problem - one more reason to run the big government nuts (D and R alike) out of office.

“Potentially over $20 billion of California’s $43 billion of agricultural revenue could be decimated in America’s greatest breadbasket...

California will just have to make up the $20 Billion loss by importing several million more illegals. It seems to be working so well now.

Something to watch: Who will be buying up the now worthless farms... just before the Democrats turn the water back on, making those investors wildly rich?

This is why the New York Times supports Obama.

It's time for another Pulitzer for Walter Duranty.

Cheers!

So Obama is holding California hostage, while Governor Gregoire just announced that she is expecting 1 billion, with a b, dollars from the federal government to help with the WA state budget, 600 million of that from the health care bill and the rest from the new stimulus bill.

So what did Pelosi and Boxer bring home to California?

Obviously this moron hasn't a clue about just how many people have been shot and hung over water rights. It's just something easterners and the elite don't fathom. Water wars really did happen.

The ESA has a problem with “take” of endangered species. It also means harm or harass (whatever that means).

Then the bounty hunter provisions lets all comers into the courts where a judge “must” side with the species unless you can prove you have no interaction with the critter.
