A Rally and Lobby Day at the Missouri Capital will be held on January 27th, 2010 to support legislation introduced into the Missouri House and the Missouri Senate supporting Missouri Tax Reform. The rally and lobby event is in support of (HJR-56) and companion Senate Bill (SJR--29) which will, if passed, go to a vote of the people to change the Missouri Constitution to ABOLISH the State Income Tax, and replace the income tax with just under a one cent sales tax increase. Studies conducted by the Show Me Institute have proven that Missouri is losing substantial economic development opportunity and growth, that are going to states without state income taxes.
The Day will start at 9:00AM with registration and participants will pick up agenda and instructions. Rally will follow in the Capital Rotunda from 11:30AM to 12:30 PM. After lunch participants will follow up with visits to their respective legislators to gather their support, and thank them for their current support of the respective legislation. Both the House and Senate Bills are inspired by the NATIONAL Fair Tax Legislation HR-25 which is currently introduced in the US Congress.
The House version of the bill has 34 current co-sponsors. In addition, the senate version of the bill will be in committee hearing on Thursday, Jan 28th. The sponsor of the Senate Bill is Chuck Purgason, who is also on the committee hearing the bill. Purgason, in addition, is seeking the US Senate Seat being vacated by the retirement of Sen. Kit Bond. Purgason, a conservative Republican from SE Missouri is running against Rep. Roy Blunt for that Senate Seat.

People the time is right for meaningful change in Missouri. Our legislators are listening to the people. Let them know you support them. Even if you can't go to the rally, be sure to call and voice your support.

What would have to be done to enact a fair tax at the Federal level? Wouldn’t it have to move through the SCOTUS?

"To preserve [the] independence [of the people,] we must not let our rulers load us with perpetual debt. We must make our election between economy and liberty, or profusion and servitude. If we run into such debts as that we must be taxed in our meat and in our drink, in our necessaries and our comforts, in our labors and our amusements, for our callings and our creeds, as the people of England are, our people, like them, must come to labor sixteen hours in the twenty-four, give the earnings of fifteen of these to the government for their debts and daily expenses, and the sixteenth being insufficient to afford us bread, we must live, as they now do, on oatmeal and potatoes, have no time to think, no means of calling the mismanagers to account, but be glad to obtain subsistence by hiring ourselves to rivet their chains on the necks of our fellow-sufferers." --Thomas Jefferson to Samuel Kercheval, 1816. The Fair Tax Act(HR25/S296) is a bill before Congress that will require passage by a simple majority in both chambers as occurs with any other bill sans SCOTUS.
