Congressman John Boozman says he's considering running for Senator Blanche Lincoln's senate seat in November.
Congressman John Boozman says he's received calls from supporters, asking him to run against Senator Blanche Lincoln in November.
A recent poll shows less than 40 percent of Arkansans support Senator Lincoln.
Right now state Senator Gilbert Baker leads Lincoln by 12 points.
State senate minority leader Kim Hendren leads her by 8 points.
Businessman Curtis Coleman and Arkansas TEA party leader Tom Cox both have a ten point lead over Lincoln.
5News spoke with Senator Lincoln's office today, and they issued this statement: "The campaign has not commented on any of the GOP candidates for U.S. Senate. Congressman Boozman would have to prove he can win his own primary before he would have the opportunity to face Senator Lincoln. None of the GOP candidates are Senator Lincoln's opponent; only one of them will have that opportunity."

Boozman would be a good candidate, but he’s kind of a Johnny-Come-Lately.
Thanks to DJ for this ping.
Isn’t Gilbert from the Little Rock area? I’d rather run someone from that part of the state against Lincoln that someone from NW AR (like Boozman and the other GOP candidates). The Senate election won’t be decided in Fayetteville.
Is this guy any good?
His voting record is good, as far as I know.
You’re right, his lsgislative district includes the Faulkner County, which is just north of Pulaski County.
Well, I think Boozman was somewhat reluctant to pull the trigger, if only because his brother had run and lost against Lincoln. I think the Brown win and Lincoln’s low polling changed his mind.
Geography isn’t going to matter this time with numbers as toxic as Blanche’s. I still have a bit of doubt that she’ll even run in November. The Dem grassroots (and probably even the party establishment) badly wants to swap her out for the more liberal Lt Gov Bill Halter (who is leaning to running in AR-2, but there are a lot of big L.R. Dems who are also potentially getting in).
A Ficus Plant from Evening Shade could beat Blanche.
If Lincoln drops out I expect Wesley Clark to jump into the race. I think it’s ludicrous that he’d make his first political race a presidential run and his second a run forthe U.S. House, and have to assume that the appeal that he supposedly received to run in AR-02 was really a trial balloon to gauge whether he’d be welcome in AR politics as he considered running for the Senate.
I also think that if Marion Berry still hasn’t announced that he’s running for reelection to the House that he may be thinking about running for the Senate as well.
I’m beginning to think that the Dem strategy is to promise the elected people cushy jobs if they vote in Obama’s agenda, and simply retire after it. Just a rotation play - and many may sign up for that.
Yeah, I saw that. I take it as a sign that he won’t be seeking the Senate seat.
