MIAMI (Reuters) - As international aid agencies rush food, water and medicine to Haiti's earthquake victims, a U.S. faith-based group is sending Bibles to Haitians in their hour of need.

Not any Bible. These are solar-powered audible Bibles that can broadcast the holy scriptures in Haitian Creole to 300 people at a time.

Called the "Proclaimer," the audio Bible delivers "digital quality" and is designed for "poor and illiterate people," the Faith Comes By Hearing group said. It added 600 of the devices were already on their way to Haiti.

This is right up there with Travolta sending dozens of Scientologists to Haiti.

Yep...that would sure beat the mud they eat or the rice they are getting...with no pots or water to cook it in!

Find it odd that Reuters would get all in a tizzy over this act of private Charity but is oddly silent on the fact the UN’s 1st priority was to rush birth control kits to Haiti.

A huge fraction of the relief work which is being done and has been done in Haiti is done by Christians. If they didn’t believe in the message in the Gospel, they probably wouldn’t be there. You can’t expect them not to share their beliefs. Also, Haiti is held back by the delusional effects of voodoo and of corrupted forms of Christianity. That’s part of the reason it is so backward. Man can not live by bread alone.

Oh, for crying out loud! I hope they sent food and/or water and clothing too. Otherwise, unless those babies can produce loaves and fishes to feed the masses, they're pretty darned useless right now and make Christians in general look bad. Though that may have been the purpose of the article.

I believe it was Planned Parenthood that sent the kits, not the UN. Not that it would surprise me, given UN priorities...

Can they listen to the Bible while getting their free back massages from the Dianetics crowd, in between photo ops with John Edwards?

You can’t expect them not to share their beliefs.

Do you hold the Red Crescent to the same standard if they share their beliefs about Islam to the people of Haiti?

True, but there are others addressing that need. Feeding the body without feeding the soul is useless.

Yeah, that line will really fly with someone who's starving...

This reminds me of an incident during the Biafran war (1972) against Nigeria.

The Biafrans were staving and a US company was advertising on TV for donated bibles to send, as most of Biafra’s bibles had been destroyed in the war with Nigeria. No mention of sending food.

Even the Salvation Army knows you feed someone first before preaching to them!
