'The Indian Premier League has announced plans to take cricket to the US. But could the home of baseball ever take cricket to its heart?
There are plenty of English people who find it hard to understand the joy of cricket. But could the United States, the home of brash, all-action sports like American football and basketball, ever embrace a sport steeped in etiquette and played by gentlemen in white trousers?
The Indian Premier League, the new powerhouse in world cricket, certainly hopes so. This week it promised to take its competition Stateside. Regional Indian sides could be competing in the Twenty20 competition by next year, according to Lalit Modi, the vice-president of the Board of Control for Cricket in India.
So could cricket take hold in the American imagination?'

Slow down, I’m still trying to figure out rugby.
Cricket in America, that’s a bit of a sticky wicket.
NO CRICKET! It’s a pu$$y game!
In general, no.
But there are enough Brits, Aussies, and especially Indians here that I could see a league getting going.
Heck, we’re starting to do quite well in international soccer, and it is isn’t anything like a major spectator sport here. We’re a big enough country (land and population) that there is room for a lot.

Why shouldn’t cricket be successfull in the States? All sorts of silly “sports” make money. “Extreme Sports”, for example. Monster trucks.
I used to work in London two weeks a month and became a big fan of Rugby “League” as opposed to Rugby “Union”. Rugby League is non-stop action. 7 “downs” to move the ball down the field to score. I actually preferred it to the NFL if only because if you blink during a half, you could miss something.
Played it in Thailand once and still do not understand it.

Down here in Oz, we have adopted the silly English sport of cricket and I don’t see it making itself in the USA.
The same as baseball never made it big here.Even basketball is not real popular here as well.
Obama wants to turn us into a Soccer and Cricket country. If he thought he could, he’d ban football because of it’s “masculine and violent tendencies”. He prefers more effeminate sports like Communist football and British baseball.
They’d have to really adjust the rules. Americans won’t take to a game that can take 3 days to play only to wind up in a tie. It’d have to be over, start to finish, in 3.5 - 4 hours or less.

I spent five years in Britain. Got to be a fanatic follower of Leeds United, Liverpool, inter alia. During the summers I TRIED to watch cricket and understand the game. After almost five years I still couldn’t figure out which side was winning. Some matches can go on for days. They have one-day matches as well and one can usually tell who won. I never saw any hooliganism at a cricket match.
