RE J.D. Hayworth’s ability to beat McCain and also win in the general:

In November 2009 Rasmussen ran a state wide AZ poll showing McCain at 45% and J.D. at 43%, a virtual tie. People had been urging him to run, but he had not publicly agreed to do so at the time of that poll and he still came out in a tie with McCain.

After Sarah Palin said she'd be campaigning for McCain, J.D. dropped to 22 points down. It wasn't just Sarah; it was also because J.D. did NOT announce and people were getting testy about being “led on”...

Remember that up until Friday he had a radio show and could NOT announce and keep the job. Also someone on here commented that he may be holding off until he has formally paid off all his legal debts. About Sheriff Joe, he held a fund raiser for J.D. for the purpose of paying off those debts.

The debts were incurred when the Rats pushed until J.D. was included in the Abramoff investigation. I don't know exactly how deep his connection was to Abramoff or if it even went beyond just getting a campaign donation from him or what.

As Rat inspired attacks often evolve, there was much heat and loud noise that generated suspicion and distrust, but, when push came to shove, J.D. was notified that there was no longer any investigation of him going on and that he was not indicted. That was somehow never made very public.

Nevertheless, while he was under the djinned up threat, he had to get legal defense to prepare for the expected indictment however false that indictment might be. He ran up large totals.

WRT his honesty, the fact that he is not wealthy enough to self finance a campaign or to easily pay off the legal debts he incurred tells me that he did not use government power to enrich himself as most seem to do in DC.

I think that also played a part in his having to keep a paying job as long as possible before announcing. He's apparently not one of our “sparkling clean public servants” who enter the House with assets of a couple hundred thou and leave with many millions.

I think much will depend on just HOW Sarah campaigns for McCain... Personally I was hoping that Cornyn gave her a proper out this AM when he said that Republicans HAVE paid attention to the teapartyers and one result is that there will be competitive primaries where we the people get to pick our candidates.

She could say that she intends to fully support John McCain AFTER he wins the primary and then just stay out of it till the primary is over. Sadly, so far she hasn't called me for advice...

“Ok, I have a legitimate Palin criticism. I listened to her all week on Fox the week she started. She needs a vocal coach.”

May I also add that Sarah needs to present a more simple, professional appearance with her hair style. The helmut head, flipped long hair, too-long bangs overwhelms her lovely petite features, is too busy for someone who wears glasses, and makes her appear that she is more concerned with a hair style that women her daughter's age might wear. A simple off the shoulder hair style and a vocal coach to strengthen the tone and pattern of her voice would, IMHO, add to her appeal and reinforce her serious interest in the politics of this country and the position she may hold in shaping it. Some may find these comments superficial, but the fact of the matter is that you are judged by what you say AND how you sound and look while you're saying it. Presentation is very important.

That poll was the same day Palin made that announcement... I fail to see how she moved the poll one inch here in AZ on that date since most of us were more concerned with the raging storms hitting the state that date. I do believe it was more related to the relentless ads McCain has been running all over the state against JD and his inability to respond.. heck, he was running them on JD’s own radio show.

It isn’t how “we” feel about Steele ... or McCain for that matter... it is how loyal Palin feels to both men.

You got that right.....and she feels loyalty to Mccain and Steele..and that is a problem. How is she going to denounce his horrid views..and still support him, eh?

“I support the man but not his MULTITUDE of RINO VIEWS????OH, but go ahead and elect this terrible RINO anyway...”

Or denounce Steele horrid job..and still support him, eh?

You believe in them or you don’t. She believes in them.

That is enough for me.

I’m afraid she is too loyal for her own good.

Well you don’t live or vote in Arizona, I do, and her doing a fund-raiser for McCain in March isn’t going to move the needle in McCain’s direction one inch.. the endorsement from Sheriff Joe for JD WILL move the needle with the voters... I’m keeping my eye on what gets JD elected here and not wasting it on silly and unwarranted hysterics.

Medina ia a south Texas gal, business owner, nurse, home schooling mom, served in her district Republican party during Ron Paul’s election in some capacity.

She is a Christian with conservative views that some see as a little extreme but it is because of her understanding of individual rights under the Constitution. Sometimes the pendulum has to swing a little farther to bring it back to where it needs to be.

I have donated to her campaign and worked to get her name out there because of my resolve made in D.C. march last year to replace those in office across the land.

Here is the barebones Medina website: http://www.medinafortexas.com/
She can use the funds if you have some extra money to help the grassroots challengers out there trying to serve “the people.”

Thanks, AC. I was pretty caught up in the raging snowstorms and some personal stuff too and didn't realize the poll came the same day as the announcement.

I also didn't know until the last couple days that McCain was attacking J.D. I only listened to J.D. every once in while over the internet because his station doesn't come in well on our house radios and only sort of OK on the car radio. Usually I listened to our local radio.

I look forward to seeing what happens now that J.D. is free to respond!

'Debra Medina, challenger for Governor of Texas is totally focused on our Constitutional Rights '.

She is a Paul-bot and a libertarian. No thanks.

I confess I don’t know what libertarian label means, but I don’t have a problem with any of Medina’s stands on issues that she has on her website. Have you read them? What specifically is it you don’t like?

I guess you missed the “numbers” that changed after she came out for him.

If he gets elected..you can thank her for more years of that Traitor to conservative values.

If you took the time to look you would know her announcement was the very same day the poll came out .. in addition you would know we were in the middle of a major storm all over Arizona and most people were concerned with being able to even drive or keep their roofs or in some entire communities their homes during that period... they were NOT paying attention to an announcement Sarah Palin was going to come to AZ and do a fundraiser with McCain in March.... AND if you lived here you would know McCain has been running negative ads about JD since before Christmas in every city on every station in Arizona, including on JD’s own radio show, and JD has legally been unable to respond... and you would know a lot of people here had almost given up that JD was going to announce and run and the other two potential candidates stand no chance of beating McCain so McCain was running away with the polls... none of this movement in the polls is attributable to Sarah Palin..

I guess you missed this.... but then maybe Rasmussen doesn't live in Arizona either

Following news that Sarah Palin will campaign for him in Arizona, Senator John McCain has opened a significant lead in the Republican Primary campaign.

Personally I think she should get her hair cut to a short bob.

Martha Coakley had a great hairstyle for a woman in politics, simple yet feminine enough.

Palin’s got pretty hair but if she went simple it would give them one less thing to complain about.

No, I didn’t miss it.. Rass is projecting trying to make his poll sound more important that it really is in this case... disappointing since I generally think Rass is a fair pollster, but facts are facts, the poll came out the same day she announced.. if Rass was here he would know the change in the poll is not a Palin-effect.

What about McCain’s Keating 5? Let them run it off and the winner will be stronger. A primary gets your name out and primes your team up to speed for the general. The only downside is it costs some money but that should be raisable in AZ for this nationalized election
