The former six-term congressman stepped down Friday as host of his conservative talk radio program on a radio station in Phoenix.
"We will formally announce at a later time, but we're moving forward to challenge John McCain," Hayworth told the Associated Press. "I think we all respect John. I think his place in history is secure. But after close to a quarter-century in Washington, it's time for him to come home."

She has NO obligation to advance what she finds to be wrong. Does she find him to be bad for the country? Going rogue, indeed.
This bears repeating over & over. I have been a HUGE Sarah Palin fan, but if she supports this POS over a real conservative...well, I'm glad I found this out now & not farther on down the road. We've got to find a leader that has REAL courage, enough courage to stand up to these evil RINO incumbents that trick all of us into keeping them in power term after term.
Not really.. I hoped she wouldn’t support McCain, but expected she would.. most people I know are disappointed she is doing this but it isn’t swaying their votes one inch.
Looks pretty conservative to me.
Sounds like getting involved with McCain is a lose lose situation. We are split like the democRats are. We need to find our identity quickly. The Tea Party is organizing to the point where they are no longer a rag-tag group, but a fledgling political power house. There is no room for the likes of McCain and other “uniters”. The progressives are playing for keeps, and we are worried about ruling from the center. That being said, the democRats will always “give” you more than the Republicans will. What is your answer for the Repubs?
Excellent points...well said...kudos..and McCain will have to debate JD....and McCain will have to face up to his stand on immigration...don’t be surprised if the initial polls are a lot closer
When is his daughters book coming out? Her views are not popular here in Arizona and it will end up helping Hayworth IMHO.
He lost the same time Rick Santorum and other good conservatives lost, I can't remember exactly when that was, but I remember at the time being shocked & thinking to myself that there was something odd about that. ACORN?
She made a poor decision here, and I don't buy the "loyalty" argument.
This won't, however, diminish my support of Sarah UNLESS she starts campaigning on behalf of McCrain cronies such as Mark Kirk of IL, Crist, and Graham.
Very impressive.
I was a strong supporter of Palin. I understand loyalty, and all the other excuses being given Palin. But her support of McCain tears it for me. It is time to send her a message. I intend to donate to Hayworth as soon as I can. I only hope there are enough of us to send McCain the same message that was sent to Ted Kennedy. Palin has to understand we are doing the talking and she has to listen too. No free pass for anyone. Trust..Naw...Verify!!
I smell interesting times ahead.
Hayworth lost because of bad Republican year, Abramoff ties, Indian casinos conflicts, and paying his wife from his PAC...only lost by 4% though...also, he was a huge earmark guy...may be tough to win for him in a “cut spending” election...magritte
Whatever it was, I think it was poisoned with RINO dung.
I remember JD was student body president at NCSU when I was a freshman. Would love to see him send Johnny Mac into retirement but its a tough road.
Oh for Pete’s sake... I thought by now everyone knew the reasons he lost.... he was redistricted and all the college kids in Tempe went all out for Harry Mitchell.. JD lost by a very slim margin as a result... one of the things they ran against him was the Abramhoff thing... which everyone in DC was up to their eyebrows in, including Harry Reid and John McCain....
Unfortunately, the middle is where the votes are, to paraphrase that infamous bank robber. The good news, is that they can be made uncomfortable enough to open their eyes.
Liberalism cannot stand on it's own merits. It needs to be "cleverly" packaged to complete the sale.
The way things are going, it appears that the dems overplayed their hand, and woke up the middle in their sleep, to a robber in the bedroom.
He...he...he
Nope.. the students at University of Arizona, Tempe...they loved the former Mayor of Tempe, Mitchell and went all out to get him elected... that and typical dirty ads at a bad time for the GOP with the Abramhoff scandal.
