In Elyria, Ohio, today, the president's motorcade made an unscheduled campaign-styled stop at a bar and restaurant in Elyria -- Smitty's, bearing the slogan: "Where Friends Meet'' - for a hamburger lunch.

Greeting Shawn Hatcher, celebrating his 42nd birthday, the president proclaimed: "Nothing wrong with 42. I am 48... I am going to buy this guy's lunch."
Told the man's order was chili, Obama said: "A bowl of chili, I can afford."

Riehl World View uses a post from
Wednesday night on FR about the White House showcasing Michelle Obama greeting tourists wearing a $2763 designer coat, matching dress of unknown cost and $850 custom made designer boots as an example of the Obama's extravagant lifestyle to contrast Obama's intelligence-insulting comment.
As Dan Riehl notes, "I guess he can afford a bowl of chili, alright. Just don't let the Mrs. spill it on her $3,000 jacket. The cleaning bill might cost you."

We certainly don’t expect the President to buy expensive gifts for every person with a birthday that he meets.
There’s many things of substance for which to attack Obama. Attacking him for paying for a guy’s lunch will not help our cause.

Oh puhle-e-e-e-e-e-ze! Do we have to put up with the fake populism? This is schmaltziness at it's worst!
Memo to the Idiot-in-Chief: Pal, we all know that you're nothing more than an effete, liberal, intellectual snob who is too cocksure of himself by half, and to be quite honest, we wouldn't mind seeing you lay off on the snobbery or the cocksureness, and maybe start to listen to us instead of talking down to us. But the fake bonhommie in the absence of the foregoing? We can do without that, thank you very much.

Ah, so now we will see little scenes as Ozero acting as "man of the people" to go along with his new populist image.
Notice how we rarely ever see him working a crowd since he became POTUS? Seems to me we saw Bush in the crowds once a week at least.

"...Michelle Obama greeting tourists wearing a $2763 designer coat, matching dress of unknown cost and $850 custom made designer boots..." Meanwhile, Obama's brother still resides in Kenya's squalor and garbage.
Priorities, priorities!

If Pres Bush had said the same thing.....the headlines would be blaring with it.....Obama has NO class....someone with class would just say...I’d LOVE to buy you a bowl of chili for your birthday....and NOT comment on its cost....sheesh.
