David LaTour rolled out of bed on a recent Saturday morning and prepared for a leisurely lunch: Wallet, check. Car keys, check. Springfield XD 9 mm pistol and ammunition, check.

Springfield XD 9 mm pistol and ammunition?

The Hayward resident is a member of an organization slowly gaining membership in the Bay Area. Open Carry aims to make it possible for Americans in every state to legally carry loaded guns in public. The loosely organized Bay Area chapter is igniting powerful feelings among law enforcement agencies, gun control advocates and ordinary residents.

We exercise our rights or we lose them.

People in California and this reporter need to get a grip. Pearl handles are good ones.

They are breaking no law but they want to blow it out of proportion to make it look like something dangerous.

And putting ‘exercising their rights’ in scare quotes is crazy.

Hilarious.

These idiots who are afraid of open carry apparently have no problem with the criminals they probably encounter daily who all carry concealed. Why? Because they don't FEEL as intimidated. This despite the obvious reality that nobody who planned to commit a crime would carry openly anyway.

A handgun on your hip, a rifle over your shoulder, and a shotgun over your forearm ought to about do it!

In addition to those carrying, not everyone was afraid:

Not everyone was upset. Ten-year-old Lottie Goddard walked up to the group with the encouragement of her father, Andy, and mother, Sammy.

“My Uncle Ray is going to teach me to shoot a gun for my 11th birthday,” she declared.

Don’t shoot friends just because they are close to the enemy.

I dunno. It could just be me but I can't recall seeing or hearing of a nutcase walking into a McDonalds, Post Office or School and shooting up the place when everyone in the place is packing.

Why is that?

I think guns make courteous neighbors the same way fences make good neighbors. I've also noticed that people carrying guns tend to NOT be brutalized by rough cops.

Just an observation of mine but then... who am I???

Glad to hear it! Also, glad to see violent crime dropped by more than 25% since SCOTUS decided Heller.

This movement is important because most California counties consider open carry to be “brandishing” and against the law. That is, both unlicensed concealed carry is a crime (just try getting a concealed carry license in CA), and open carry is a crime. California has in effect repealed the Second Amendment. This is BIG!

BTW, Patton thought pearl handles fit only for “New Orleans pimps.” His handles were ivory.

I would suspect that anyone carrying has knowledge of the law and their rights.
Similar to lawyers being respected by officers.

Seems like a lot of feeling and theorizing going on in the scared-of-guns crowd, and very few facts.

I’m just sayin’...
