AZ-Sen. 2010: AZ Sen Poll: McCain Opens Primary Lead (over Hayworth) (thanks a lot, Sarah)
Real Clear Politics / Rasmussen ^ | 2010-01-22

Posted on 01/22/2010 8:02:15 AM PST by rabscuttle385

Sen. John McCain (R) has known from an early stage that he could face a tough primary in his bid for re-election this year, and acted on it. He already launched radio ads touting his effort to block President Obama's "extreme left wing crusade." And just this week, Sen.-elect Scott Brown (R) recorded robocalls that went out to voters in Arizona.

Now, a Rasmussen poll (502 LVs, 1/20, MoE +/- 4.5%) shows the Maverick just over 50 percent in a potential matchup against former Rep. JD Hayworth -- not the best position for an incumbent to be, but an improvement over the dead heat Rasmussen found in November.

Primary Election Matchup
McCain 53 (+8 vs. last poll, 11/18)
Hayworth 31 (-12)
Simcox 4 (unch)
Und 8 (+1)

I’ve been trying to warn people here about Palin. She’s not what many would like to believe.
The Palin delusion and projection is the parallel on our side of the 0bama delusion and projection was on the Dems side.

Palin is not down with our struggle.
If she was, then she would have never come out for McCain.
Ridding the GOP of people like McCain is our #1 priority.
And Palin is an opponent of our top priority.

Get it through your heads quickly, people.
Before you allow this woman to lead us even deeper into the wilderness.

There is nothing to wonder about. She has already state that she is honoring a promise she made earlier. Sadly, she has had to fall on a sword to honor a promise.

May she soon decide she has met her obligation and expose McLaim for the disgusting debris that he has become. Without a good washing she could be terminally infected.

If Sarah campaigns for McCain, then her credibility is toast:

I wish I knew. He was even with Queeg in the Ras poll two months ago, he was leading in another poll. He did nothing and squandered his momentum.

With the Palin announcement, I doubt Hayworth even gets in the race now. The Soros puppet looks like he’s going to have another cakewalk back to the senate.

Is Steve Schmidt running John McCain’s campaign?

The primary is in August. Why on earth is he waiting so long?

THIRTY days ago; no one outside Massachusetts had ever heard of Scott Brown, and he was thirty points behind.

I have heard that said, plus some other wierd stuff, but I really don't know.

If the problem is just $$$, you'd think he would be more actively seeking donations, telling his supporters he will run once he retires the debt.

Right now, we're all kind of shooting in the dark.

I'm afraid you're right. And just as it is with Obama, women are the driving force behind it.

but there is no doubt that she personally and genuinely took a liken to him in her book, that part doesn’t seem like a fake affection.

And the last thing conservatives need is a star struck girly girl who makes decisions on that basis. We need tough minded politicians who can see the immense harm Juan McCain has done to conservative causes over the years.

Or maybe she isn't really a conservative.

“I think I might know - loyalty - but still I wish she’d honor her supporters rather than McCain.”

Right. Have WE not been loyal to her? Come on! We have defending her and her family right along with her, defended her in public against the idiotic foaming mouth left...

She really needs to rethink supporting McCain til after the primary...but it looks like she’s got two events scheduled in March w. McLame.

I think she’d get a real bump from our side, if she’d just say, you know what, ‘I’m going to wait until the primary has played out there, I do appreciate a lot of what John McCain has stood for, but I’m going to let the voters decide in the primary first.’

That would go a long way. I and many other Conservatives will be watching closely Sarah. Please, please don’t presume our support. That’s been done WAY too much in the past, by people like McLame...

I have a different take on this. I don’t think Sarah Palin plans to run in 2012, or else, if she does, maybe McPain said he will support her.

Mostly, it is a poor decision on her part.

All this hating on Sarah, as if she’s gonna vote and bam McCain gets in. This is up to Arizona. It’s on their shoulders to get rid of him. Not Sarah’s.

McCain (among others) might be coming around to a rightward turn in his thinking

This would be the 7,846th temporary "rightward turn" in McQueeg's sorry career.

I can’t see that you’ve supported Sarah very much. Almost every McCain thread you’re telling us how Sarah is wrong.

I am on the fence on this as she got publicity yet IMO bad publicity from conservatives. Moderates already have issues with her IMO so it wasn’t like she was going to gain anything with old gopers etc......I think this was a bad move on her part.

I don’t get to vote there yet I can send my money an support to Hayworth from here in TX !

McCain is a polidiot that needs to GO AWAY !!

Agreed on all points. Palin needs to re-read the Tea Party tea leaves. Loyalty is one thing. Blind loyalty is another, like battered wife syndrome (He's a good guy; I can change him, ad nauseum...). We'll see how far she takes it. McCain needs to be flushed in any event. He's pure poison to the conservative movement.

Could the McCains have offered Sarah a pile of money to support him?

If Hayworth will run against him, I will contribute to his campaign. McCain is too anti-US and too confused to be given a pass. Hard to forget how Lieberman used to whisper answers to him as if he were a puppet.
