The blocks surrounding South Philadelphia High School are a melting pot of pizzerias fronted by Italian flags, African hair-braiding salons and a growing number of Chinese, Vietnamese and Indonesian restaurants.
Inside is a cauldron of cultural discontent that erupted in violence last month - off-campus and lunchroom attacks on about 50 Asian students, injuring 30, primarily at the hands of blacks. The Asian students, who boycotted classes for more than a week afterward, say they've endured relentless bullying by black students while school officials turned a blind eye to their complaints.
Philadelphia school officials suspended 10 students, increased police patrols and installed dozens of new security cameras to watch the halls, where 70 percent of the students are black and 18 percent Asian. The Vietnamese embassy complained to the U.S. State Department about the attacks and numerous groups are investigating, including the Pennsylvania Human Relations Commission.
The New York-based Asian American Legal Defense and Education Fund joined the fray this week with a civil rights complaint to the U.S. Justice Department.
The Philadelphia school district acted with "deliberate indifference" toward the harassment and failed to prevent the Dec. 3 attacks, according to the complaint. It says Asian students' pleas for help and protection were ignored by school employees
Asian students say black students routinely pelt them with food, beat, punch and kick them in school hallways and bathrooms, and hurl racial epithets like "Hey, Chinese!" and "Yo, Dragon Ball!"

Why don’t they fight back?
Yes, racism is alive and well in America thanks to Libs always talking about it.
Racism only can be claimed by one group in this country.
Because when it comes to crime, Asians get treated like whiteys.
Hmmmm, maybe because they’re outnumbered nearly 4 to 1?
If this was whites bullying blacks there would be such a hue and cry, but hey, blacks can’t be racist, right?
“The New York-based Asian American Legal Defense and Education Fund joined the fray this week with a civil rights complaint to the U.S. Justice Department.”
I wish them success. What has been going on in this school is disgusting. Every teacher and administrator should be fired.
Eric Holder won’t investigate this.

Bad odds and probably cultural and attitudinal differences.
Philadelphia school officials suspended 10 students, increased police patrols and installed dozens of new security cameras to watch the halls, where 70 percent of the students are black and 18 percent Asian.
Isn’t cultural diversity wonderful? Liberalism has so screwed the black community that many of their kids go up to be thugs and criminals. Really, really hate to say that but its true. Lack of discipline and moral instruction has ruined many a young black kid which is a shame because America needs productive and good citizens.
Asians have always been a fly in the race pimps’ “whitey keeps us down” ointment.
They are, on average, more successful and educated than whites despite being a “minority”.
Maybe he can invite them all to the White House for beers.
“Ackerman apologized to the students but was criticized for bringing a busload of black “student ambassadors” to one hearing - students who were not involved in the strife. She also stirred tensions when she complained that the cultural crisis was “taking up a lot of my time.”
She (the superintendent) doesn’t give a crap about the asian students. Neither does the principal.
I taught in a program for inner city Philly highschool kids and some of them were good kids, but most of them were the most racist people I ever met.
That bothers me that these kids have forgotten the indignities endured by our antecedents in this country and will not give others the respect, that many fought and died for, to other races. If it was not acceptable for black folk not to be abused and discriminated against, it is not acceptable for us to do it to others. It really saddens me.
Sue them.
“Why dont they fight back?”
That is the wrong question..why hasn’t this been under control long before this incident? And, because they should not have to....plus, this question deflects away from the thugs to the victims.
Look what I found. This article isn’t even shocking, which is a devestating indictment of public education.
Do you remember that someone once wrote a book called “The Problem With Homeschooling”? If someone were to write a book called “The Problem With Public Education,” it would have to be released in volumes over a period of several years.
