Executive Order huh? That’s gonna be his work around now?
Actually, I’m going to be a contrarian here. All of these programs need significant cuts. The US is bankrupt unless they get made. Congress cannot do it.
So long as BO doesn’t hide a bunch of nasty left wing poison in this proposal, I’d be inclined to give it tentative support. The problem is, I don’t trust him to only address those issues. He’ll try to sneak free health care for illegal immigrants, gay marriage, death panels, and cuts to missile defense into the package.
So it needs to be watched carefully. But in general principal, why should we be opposing cuts in three of the worst entitlement programs ever devised.
As I’ve poster elsewhere on FR, watch out. Brown’s win made Barry realize that if he wants a second term, he’s got to swing to the center.
And 3 years is a long time in most American’s memory!! Barry’s first year goofs will be forgotten or forgiven by then.
Yeah, let some panel do it. He ain’t got the time, the first tee is open at 1 o’clock
Obama is “messing” with the wrong people! He cuts US and WE cut him!
If they want to cut, start with the Dept. of Education and its $56 BILLION budget! That would pay for the SS gap!
I can handle a 3% or even a 5% cut in social security, but I want Obambi and congress to take the same cuts. Oh yes, and federal employee wages also.
They can reduce medicare 3-5% if they choose. I carry supplemental insurance to pick up the slack. Now the cut to the care is a different story. Trying to find a doctor today that will take medicare patients is impossible. Of course, again, having supplemental insurance really helps. But I have given up on medicare and use the VA medical services for my health needs. They love me in the VA, cause they can give me great care and charge it off to medicare and my supplemental insurance.

Looks like Dick Morris was right, all along.
WASHINGTON — Republicans on Wednesday branded the White House deal with Democrats on a budget deficit commission as a “nothing burger” because it wouldn’t require votes on how to stem the red ink.
A tentative agreement would let President Barack Obama name the 18-member bipartisan commission. It would seek a compromise on the tax increases and spending cuts needed to tackle the deficit, which reached $1.4 trillion last year and could climb this year.

This is DOD bill I think, not obamacare.
Makes little difference as it is a health care issue.
TRI CARE FOR LIFE This from a google search:

This option would help reduce the costs of TFL, as well as costs for Medicare, by introducing minimum out-of pocket requirements for beneficiaries. Under this option, TFL would not cover any of the first $525 of an enrollees cost-sharing liabilities for calendar year 2011 and would limit coverage to 50 percent of the next $4,725 in Medicare cost sharing that the beneficiary incurred. (Because all further cost sharing would be covered by TFL, enrollees could not pay more than $2,888 in cost sharing in that year.)

Meanwhile, these pricks will continue to vote themselves more and more and more benefits, raises and perqs.
They are crafting a trap for the GOP.
be very careful people.
We appreciate the concerns of legislators who are looking for a means of reducing the federal deficit and slowing the growth in the debt. However, we have significant concerns about any process including the Conrad-Gregg Commission that would disenfranchise American voters and subject Social Security beneficiaries to harmful cuts in benefits. As supporters of Social Security, we are surprised to see the federal deficit and the federal debt cited as the reason a commission needs to be established to make cuts in Social Security. The truth is that neither the $1.4 trillion deficit nor the nearly $12 trillion debt has anything to do with Social Security benefits.
For nearly three decades, Social Security has taken in more revenue each year than it has paid out in benefits. These excess funds have been invested in special issue U.S. government securities. Thus, Social Security has effectively been loaning its excess funds to the federal government to spend on other programs. Rather than increasing the federal deficit, Social Securitys annual surpluses have actually been covering up the true size of the deficit in the general fund.

This panel is nothing more that a way to get the republicans to sign on to a tax increase. Hope they are smart enough to stay away from it.
I remember during Clinton’s time Rush explaining how that works. They get a panel of thier own cronies to do what the president wants and if something goes wrong,”It’s the panel’s fault”. They fool the people and the administration remains unscathed. We had an ethics problem here in San Antonio Texas. Well, the sitting Mayor dug out a past Mayor from 1975, Lila Crockrell, and asked her to form a (special) ethics committee to look into the problem. I don’t remember hearing anything more about it or what “the special committee” did. I’m sure the ex-mayor and friends were paid well.
They want to raise the debt limit by $1.9 trillion.
This is a threat to get that passed.
Then its off to the spending races with Stimulus 2 and 3.
