Mark Levin vs. Glenn Beck: Was Scott Brown’s joke about his daughters inappropriate?

Two clips for you, one via the Right Scoop from this morning’s radio show and the other via Mediaite from tonight’s GB on Fox. When I saw the first one, I figured he simply stumbled onto the topic while riffing and it went from there; Mediaite was outrageously outraged by the “dead intern” comment, but whatever. It was a joke. To open tonight’s Fox show with the same material, though? Right out of the chute, the day after Brown delivered the biggest Republican victory since 2004? I don’t get it. Neither does Mark Levin, who’s been known to criticize Beck before:

You know, the really ignorant thing about criticizing Brown is that in kidding around with his girls, it actually shows he is a good family man. Ask any guy who is a father of girls: doing something deliberately to provoke the “oh daddy!” squirm of embarrassment from the teenage daughters is something only a father with a good, comfortable relationship does (and he never misses a chance to do so).

If smearing Brown was a joke, I don’t think it was very funny. It’s very weird.

Yeah, I had the same reaction about Brown being a good family man. What he said last night was embarrassing, but deliberately so, and his daughters seemed to take it with good humor. It was a sweet moment, however unorthodox. Sounds like the whole clan has a healthy appetite for busting on each other, in fact. From today’s Time interview:

I found it rather inappropriate and was surprised that Rush commented upon it positively this AM. But I was also surprised that Beck brought it up this PM. I would probably just have left it alone. It was such a good night—why bring it up?

Beck envies Brown. Brown is hot Beck is not. Beck is insecure as Hell. He is also jealous of Palin.

It’s something I absolutely could see my husband saying in a joking manner about our daughters and no one in the world questions whether or not he is a good father. And, I’d guess our daughters would react the way his did. I don’t get Beck’s problem here at all.

Yes, I think you’re right about that. Beck has a problem with Brown in general.

Heard it this morning on Beck’s radio show and thought he was being stupid.
I heard the speech and liked just about everything about it.
Beck should have had a tingle up his leg over this and all he talked about for 20 minutes was how sorry Brown was.

Disappointed to say the least.

All in all it was harmless and Beck is a weird guy. Saying the thing about the dead intern is not funny to me.

You know, I surprised myself yesterday. I was watching Fox and Glen Beck, and about ten minutes into the show, I switched to The Situation Room with Wolf.

I didn’t switch because he turned me off. I switched because I was bored. He simply didn’t have anything of interest to me.

I am not a huge Beck enthusiast nor am I a Beck hater, and have only dabbled in watching him.

It was a JOKE. Many fathers say stuff like that, for heaven’s sake. Conservatives need to stop being so politically correct. . . or stiff and unbendable or who would want to be a Conservative? I sure wouldn’t. We need to “lighten up.”

Scott Brown doesn't need Beck to tell him how to give an acceptance speech seeing how his inappropriateness just got him elected to the ‘Kennedy’ seat.

Beck needs to continue to do what he does best, bashing the birthers as wackos and kooks.

ENOUGH!!!!! Dammit!!!!! Beck and Levin and playing RIGHT into the left’s playbook, here. Get on with it! We have work to do! As my mother used to say....”This is just ‘chickensh!t. Save it for the ‘big stuff.” Pull together, radio/tv hosts. This isn’t a ‘pissing contest’ for YOU. this is about US. Crap like this REALLY gets me steamed. Sorry folks.

Not something I would say, but Beck certainly went on and on about it way too much.

But then, Glenn is known to "question with boldness," unless it's about a birth certificate...

I saw nothing wrong with it. I showed a completely functional family being able to have fun with one another, even in public. Frankly, I might have done something like that myself under the same circumstances. There was no harm short of a little embarrassment, no foul.
