Last chance for Mainers to support Paul LePage in Pine Tree Politics Poll
Pine Tree Politics ^ | 1/20/10 | Pine Tree Politics

This poll closes in less than 3 hrs (midnight Eastern) and RINO Steve Abbott has pulled slightly ahead. A field of 7 candidates are seeking the Republican gubernatorial nominination.

LePage is a true conservative with a solid business and political background (3 term mayor of Waterville). Abbott was for 12 years Sue Collins' chief of staff - a Washington insider hack with no real world experience. He is also the GOP establishment pick and the suggestion has been made that with him in the running all others should just "step aside."

LePage has the makings of Maine's Rubio.

If the link doesn't work, go to the home page http://www.pinetreepolitics.com and look for Republican Primary Poll #2 in the menu (right side of page).

Mainers please vote in this poll if you haven't. While this poll is unscientific a lot of people are looking at it in the state.

I’m with you on Paul LePage.
The best conservative running for Governor of Maine.

He might lack the charisma of Rubio, but LePage has a good track record of tax cutting as Mayor of Waterville and success as GM of Mardens. He has that regular guy thing. Abbott will probably win. I don’t buy at all the idea that LePage is not electable. Waterville is a Democrat city, and LePage gets elected over and over.

Paul basically knows that govt’s job is to get out of the way of business. Maine’s regulations and taxes are stifling.

I think if Paul handles the campaign well, he can trounce Abbott. Abbott is a pure hack with no record.

The candidates on the Dem side are pretty much all washed up Dem pols. LePage can win.

It seems that here and there across the country, people are using the “electability” argument. I don’t buy it. Nationally, the country is 40% conservative, 36% moderate, 20% liberal. To win, a candidate needs all conservatives and 11% from the 36%, which is less than a third of the moderates. An easy task. When conservatives are unhappy with the Republican nominee, sometimes they stay home or vote 3d party. That’s a pretty big problem. What people don’t take into consideration is that those “moderates” aren’t rigidly centrist, they can be persuaded to vote for liberals or conservatives.

Anyway, any idea whether having 8 candidates helps or hurts LePage? Would LePage benefit with fewer candidates in the race? It seems like only LePage is getting any traction with conservatives in Maine, so all those other candidates may take from Abbott?

The poll is still up this morning.

LePage is only 22 votes behind Abbott.
