About 5 years ago there was a network broadcast of a ‘magazine’ type show (60 Minutes or 20/20) featuring an experiment which basically involved walking very very slowly on a treadmill while working at an elevated desk instead of sitting down. A male sales manager was given a treadmill that moved mere inches in a minute and the equipment was position over/in front of a desk with phone etc. The inching pace of the treadmill kept him on his feet and the blood circulating. He reported that he became accustomed to it and that he lost about 15-20 lbs with no other change to his diet etc. and that his blood pressure decreased.
Inspired by this, I mounted a monitor and keyboard over my treadmill and although I don’t work there like he did, for 8 hours a day, I can say that I feel better (less listless)after surfing there instead of at a desk. I also like to watch Hulu while treading but swooping camera moves can make me weave side to side.

I’m screwed. I’ve sat at a computer 14 hours a day for the last 15 years.

It would be easier (and take far less time to type) if they just told us what we CAN do, at this point.

I Stand at my laptop on the kitchen counter ALL the time....and am never tired....and, oh, I’m 58! Sitting just makes people sluggish. I think there are studies out there already that prove standing is MUCH better for you.

Research is preliminary, but several studies suggest people who spend most of their days sitting are more likely to be fat, have a heart attack or even die. They needed a study to fugure that out?
