PORT-AU-PRINCE, HaitiA powerful aftershock struck Haiti on Wednesday, shaking buildings and sending screaming people running into the streets only eight days after the country's capital was devastated by a major earthquake.
The U.S. Geological Survey said the magnitude-6.1 tremblor hit at 6:03 a.m. (11:03 a.m. GMT) about 35 miles northwest of the capital of Port-au-Prince. It struck at a depth of 13.7 miles but was located too far inland to generate any tidal waves in the Caribbean.
Wails of terror rose Wednesday from frightened survivors of the apocalyptic quake that struck eight days ago as people as people poured out of unstable buildings.
It wasn't immediately possible to ascertain what additional damage the new quake may have caused.
Last week's magnitude-7 quake killed an estimated 200,000 people in Haiti, left 250,000 injured and made 1.5 million homeless. A massive international aid effort has been launched, but is struggling with overwhelming logistical problems.

OOPS! That’s “True Northstar.”
they are calling this a new earthquake, not an aftershock
This is a horrible story which just keeps getting worse.
I don’t think I have ever felt a greater need for prayer.
Well thanks, great/true it’s all good!....lol
I'll say it again, believe it or not, God isn't the God of confusion, satan is the confuser. If you want to know anything, just ask God, He will tell you. God's judgments are few and far in between. His mercy and love are far greater than any can imagine. He allows things to happen yes, but, most of the time He does not cause them. People blaming God for everything. When they get cancer, when they lose there jobs. They blame Him when there kid gets killed by a drunk driver, they blame Him for everything. A hurricane is an act of God. That tornado is an act of God...blah blah blah...Yes God judges, but, He warns people first through His prophets. If God is going to judge, you can bet you'll know it is Him, you won't be guessing.
Prayers..
I know what you mean. It is just heart breaking to see. Especially the children.
Is this the Montanta Hotel, because they were still there last night, I know that is the hotel that housed the missing college students. The families have been all over the TV, is is beyond sad...
Just curious - you say you were awakened at 6 - what time zone? Personal page says MI; that’s 1 or 2 time zones off from Haiti, which would make me think you prayed at least an hour after the fact.
I’m not sure, it’s possible. It’s terribly sad, breaks my heart. I can’t imagine the agony.
Another thing. The OP was not “blaming God” by her comment. She was simply calling out, if you will.
I cannot believe that people are still alive under the wreckage, that in itself is a miracle. The thought of being buried alive for a week is a nightmare, God bless this poor country as I think it is only going to get worse before it gets better.
These earthquake maps are really informative. Thanks for posting them.
Just heard on radio Jacque Mel (sp) is where it was?
Thanks FReepers for you quick response.
God Bless You All!
God woke you up so you would pray to Him? Circular just a bit?
They are in the same time zone. Michigan is in the eastern time zone and so is Haiti.
What does this make, four or five earthquakes along the Caribbean plate this week?
God is sovereign, and all things are determined by his will.
At the same time, we can’t blame God or say God did it. Nature did it. The Fall of Man is what led to a fallen world, including the animal kingdom and the Earth itself.
OMG that is terrible! WE HAVE MARINES THERE!
prayers for the leathernecks!
If this all sounds strange to you, welcome to God's world. He is spirit and things are opposite then what they are on earth. Here, the world will tell you to horrid your money, put it away. If you don't have enough to give to someone don't. God says, give, and it will be given you, pressed down and flowing over. The world says, if someone is mean to you get revenge, hate the person. God says, love your enemy's. I could go on but, I think you get the picture.
